Wars will level up based on war contributions - player damage and healing.
Higher level wars will grant more fame salary and spoils of war.
The more players participate in a war, the bigger the fame salary for each individual player.
Whenever a player dies, the spoils of a war grow. Whenever no player has died for a while, the fight is concluded and a winner / loser faction is determined.
When a fight concludes, spoils of war are distributed by 100% to the winning faction and 60% to the losing faction, and spoils are reset to 50% of their original value.
When a player does not contribute to the war efforts, they are not rewarded a fame salary and will be removed from the war after a period of inactivity.
Added Prestige Points, a new PvP value that determines a players PvP rank and is rewarded weekly based on their fame earnings.
Fame will now be reset to zero on a weekly basis (Tuesday / Wednesday nights) and turned into Prestige Points.
Prestige Points decay by 20% per week to ensure only active players are able to rank on the global leaderboards.
Each faction has an individual fame bracket system to determine a player's Prestige Point generation at the weekly reset.

Behold, the new user interface has finally arrived! Everything, including login page, in-game user interface, and all specific sub parts of the interface have been completely redone. This was all done while increasing the performance of the game by cutting overhead - namely Bootstrap and jQuery - as well as dropping all unnecessary styling from the game.

In order to make the first gameplay steps of Hordes a bit easier for new players, we have added a 20+ step tutorial that guides new players through the game. Veteran players will also start the tutorial on their first login - but fear not, you can disable it!

The fame system has always been a core part of Hordes. Killing other players to steal their fame points. At certain levels of Fame, you will be rewarded with different types of headgear (Helmets, Crowns) of different styles. Fame itself has no actual impact on gameplay mechanics, so its almost entirely an honor and glory type deal.
In the early days of Hordes.io, fame was a very volatile number. Stealing fame was based on percentages. Killing someone used to steal 15% of their fame and you were able to kill anyone, without level restrictions. For most people, this was exciting. Having a lot of fame meant that you have to be careful because everyone is out to hunt you.
At some point, we decided to change the fame system to a linear system. Kill someone and receive 10 fame, while they lose 15. The intent here was to make deaths less frustrating, and to limit people from excessively hunting each other down.
Unfortunately the linear system, while being more relaxed, was also pretty boring. There is no thrill in acquiring large amounts of fame, and holding a golden crown is no challenge. That's why we decided to change it up again and bring back a tame version of the old system, with some limitations, and also a way to opt out of PvP completely.
Let it be known
Global PvP messages are back.
Whenever someone murders someone for over 100 fame, a global kill message is displayed to everyone.
The Hunt Is On
Attacker: 10 Fame gained → 10 + 1.0% fame gained.
Victim: 15 Fame lost → 15 + 1.1% fame lost.
Limit: 2000 fame stolen.
With the additions of a more "relentless" fame system, we realize that there will be some players feeling uncomfortable with it. The pressure of moving around the map alone is now higher because you are at risk of losing much more of your hard-earned fame than you used to.
While ultimately PvP is a core part of Hordes.io, we decided that it is time to allow people to opt out of PvP if they simply feel like playing in peace. However, making this choice should come with downsides, and choosing the risky way (PvP) should have certain advantages. In order to achieve this, we now have different server types.
Alpheos PvE Server
PvE stands for "Player versus Environment", and has always been a term representing a peaceful gameplay where players don't actively fight each other. On the PvE servers, you cannot kill other players.
PvP Server
PvP stands for "Player versus Player". It means you can kill other players. Like always.
In order to make PvP servers slightly more competitive, we decided to set only one server to PvE and 3 servers to PvP. This means that the PvE server will usually be really full, while the PvP servers will be rather empty compared to PvE. The incentive here is that on PvP servers you will have an easier time farming, while the PvE servers offer more safety. Pick one!

Hordes is now entirely secured with SSL. HTTPS everything.

The biggest addition for Alpha 23 is a complete user account system. From now on, you can play all your characters from a centralized account!
Don’t worry, your old characters are not gone - you can add them to your new account.

How it works
Sign up
To register a new Hordes.io account, visit the sign up page. Fill out the three empty fields:
Username: Enter any desired username into the username field. Your username is not related to your Character names and will generally not be visible to others.
Email: Enter your email address. Make sure that you have access to the email address, so you can recover your password in case you lose it. We will not send you any spam emails or newsletters.
Password: Enter a secure password, we recommend using multiple words, a combination of letters (upper and lowercase) and numbers.
Finally, press the “Sign up” button. If anything goes wrong, you will be presented with on screen instructions.
2. Character management
On the character page, you can see a list of all your currently playable characters. You can also delete them by pressing the little icon. Note that this will permanently delete your character.
3. Playing a character
While logged in, you can simply play any of your characters by visiting the main page and clicking on a character, then pressing play!
You can also switch between characters in the game now by clicking on your character's name in the upper right corner and selecting any other character.
4. Adding old characters to your account
Players from before Alpha 23 might want to add their old characters to their new Hordes.io account. This can easily be done through the character management page. Simply type in your old character ID into the “Claim ID” field, and you are good to go!
5. Resetting forgotten passwords
Did you forget your password on accident? Not a problem anymore. Visit the password reset page and enter your email address.
We will then send you an email to your email address. Open this email in your email account, and click on the link. This link will bring you to the password reset page. On this page, you have to enter your email address again, and choose a new password.
6. Log out
Remember to always log out of your account if you are playing in a public place ( At school, in a Web-Cafe, etc.) There are two ways to log out, through the account manager, or right inside of the game, in the character selection menu.
Latency display
We have added a little latency display in your game settings menu. This will tell you about your game latency (lag). The lower this number is, the better. Should you be experiencing numbers above 150, you are probably lagging in some ways. This might be related to your location, or using WIFI.
Trader changes
People were sometimes experiencing a bug with the trader, causing you to sell your items even if the trader window was already closed. We chose to change the trader interaction. He also got a slight hp regeneration nerf, so he might actually be killable!
Wholesale
You now have to physically walk away from the vendor to leave selling mode.
Nerfed trader hp regen drastically.
Server restart changes
We improved server performance and fixed memory leaks, so we chose to increase the intervals of automatic server restarts to 400 minutes.
Sit Down
Speedhacking should be mostly fixed for now, or at least drastically improved. If you see people running around way too fast though, feel free to join the discord server and leave a report.
Be Humble
We fixed(?) the warrior speed glitch. Probably. Don’t quote us on it.
Inventory Weirdness
Fixed a bug where you would see items of the character you were previously logged into in your inventory.
Better Reconnects
Improved client’s ability to reconnect to servers after automatic server restarts. This also allows us to apply client side patches without you noticing for the most part.
Faster Load Times
Reduced the overall client side of hordes by about 30% (1.1mb -> 780kb), helping with the loading times.
Smaller Files and Textures
Drastically reduced the size of many texture and 3d model files, for even faster load times.
Forget Me Not
Fixed several drastic memory leaks on the Hordes.io game server logic.
Bags
With bags, we are introducing a new item type to Hordes. Bags will allow you to increase the size of your inventory, so you can carry more stuff! They have their own slot in the character panel, and you can simply equip a bag by right clicking or dragging the bag in your bag slot.
Bags have a unique stat, that only they will provide: Extra slots. As soon as you equip a bag, you will see your inventory grow in size, which will allow you to farm much more efficiently and also store more items in the future. Extra slots are added on top of your baseline 21 inventory slots.
Note: Once you have equipped a bag, in order to un-equip it, you need to make sure that the slots which the bag provides are empty - otherwise you’d lose your items.

Trees
For the longest time, the unruly lands of Hordes have consisted mostly of grass plains, rocky roads, and dry deserts. However, we decided to spice it up and planted trees. Crazy people would call that a forest!
We hope to deliver a cozier atmosphere in Hordes and immerse you as a player. During the testing of the new tree models, the community honored the occasion by deciding on a name for the biggest tree on the central mountain of Hordes. This magical tree shall henceforth be known as the Yggdrasil, tree of life. This sacred location will be used for community gatherings, rituals such as the sacrificial offering of botters and jerks to the gods, and dance battles (more on that coming up soon).

Emotes
A new emote system is coming, and we decided to test it with the first emote!
Using emotes is easy - you can access them by typing in the chat box. Our first emote is /dance. Try it, it’s fun and you’ll quickly find yourself battling it out on the dance floor. There are currently still a few bugs with the emote system, please bear with us while we fix them.
GM Crowns
GMs now have a new crown: The obsidian crown. This will allow you to spot a GM faster.

We decided to increase the drop rates of offpiece armor types slightly (compared to other item types). This does not affect the levels of dropped items. The level rates have not been touched, promise!
Counter Inflation
With the increased amount of inventory slots (tripled for high level players), we felt that it was in place to slightly decrease the amount of items dropped.
Chance of gold dropping, rather than item, increased by 5%.
Slime Deflation
We have decreased the size of slimes slightly and altered their death animation to be less intrusive.. to the floor. They made it quite hard to see items on the ground, so we decided to change that.

Added player profile pages.

Slimes
Slimes are a new form of monster venturing the lands in Hordes. They can be found in different colors: green (low level), blue (mid level) and red (highest level). They have a lower movement speed than the average monster and player, but they also have a bit more health.
Skeleton archers
Archers are a mutated form of the regular sword based monsters. They can shoot at you, but have a lower range than most classes. They move at regular speed and do regular damage. Since they are more complex in terms of mechanics, we will start by testing them with a relatively low amount of spawn rate.
Monster changes
With the new monster classes, there have come some slight adjustments to monsters overall.
Chaaarge
Regular monsters (swordies) have a higher base movement speed, so they are harder to kite.
Monsters are more packed, with the overall amount of monsters reduced, especially in low level areas.
High level areas are more densely packed (red ground area, 60+ mobs).
EXP Rates
In order to allow everyone to rise to new heights and make the PvP field more even, we have drastically boosted the EXP rates that monsters yield. This should move the average players level higher and allow for more PvP (see PvP changes next).
EXP BOOSTS
Leveling 1-20: ~4X faster.
Leveling 20-40: ~3X faster.
Leveling 40+: ~2X faster.
New PvP Ruleset
Previously, players below level 20 were unable to engage in PvP, and hence protected, but also unchallenged. This new change will affect how everyone has to watch their surroundings, especially new players.
Fairer play
Above level 20 → Within 1.8X level range +- 2.
This means, a player can fight players up to 1.8X times his level. For example:
Level 5 Player PvP Range: 1 - 11.
Level 10 Player PvP Range: 5 - 20.
Level 20 Player PvP Range: 10 - 38.
Level 35 Player PvP Range: 19 - 65.
Level 50 Player PvP Range: 22 - 74.
Level 65 Player PvP Range: 35 - 99.
Level 80 Player PvP Range: 44 - 99.
We hope that this will allow for PvP encounters to be more healthy and fun for everyone. But we also understand that very high level players (70+) will now fear that they will not be able to find a lot of PvP enemies anymore. While there is truth to that, we also believe that a level 70 player fighting a level 20 player is only fun for one of them. This is why we have boosted the EXP rates. As a result, everyone should have enough players to fight.
We felt like the base movement speed without good boots is a bit low.
Move buff
Player base movement speed 7 → 8.
We have made some performance improvements, mostly by reducing animations of monsters in the distance, and culling some stuff that wasnt necessary. There have been some changes to the shadow map for a cool thing that will be coming in the future.

Team up
Create a clan with a unique Name and Clan Tag.
Have your own clan chat to strategize with your clan members.
See your clan members and other clans tags next to the player's names.
Have your clan members visually stand out with a blue colored hp bar.
At the moment, only the leader of a clan will be able to invite people to his clan. To invite someone, press the invite button next to the target panel. If a player wants to join a clan, they need to have set a unique character name first.
Each clan can have a unique name and clan tag. Clan tags will be displayed next to the character names, and your clan members will have a blue colored health bar, so you can recognize them easily.
Unique character names
With the clan update comes a much requested feature: Setting a unique character name. Players have voiced their concerns about player-impersonation. No more of this, we say. From now on you can set your unique character name. Once you have set it, nobody else can set it. People can still create "unregistered" character names, however their names will appear gray in the chat.
Be the first to register a unique character name.
Registered unique character names will show up as a darker color in the chat.
You can only create and join clans with a unique character name.

Shiny loot
Over 150 Items added, including: swords, bows, staffs, hammers as well as various types of armors, jewelry, and class specific off-hand items like shields and quivers! (*phew*).
Monsters will drop gold and items with randomized stats according to their level.
Items can be picked off of the ground via left click. Make sure you are near enough!
Character Panel
Mysterious stat values are a thing of the past! You'll be able to check on all your character stats in the character panel (open with C, and remember, you can rebind all hotkeys via /rebind). The character panel also contains all the item slots!
Inventory
Once picked up, you can find all that sick loot in your inventory (which can be opened by pressing B, by the way.) Should your body be ready - by meeting all the requirements to wear an item - then you can equip it by right clicking or dragging it into the appropriate slot.
The Trader NPC
The Trader is a new NPC and can be found at every spawn. If your inventory is overflowing with loot, this is the man to show your junk to (nobody else. please.).
New character stats
We have added a few new character values, to give our new friends a way to shine. In other words, classes now can be more diverse. We've also added mana. Yep. Don't worry though, the world isn't ending yet. We will be adjusting the values slowly, to make sure that people don't feel mana starved.

Gold rewards on kill
With the addition of items, a players gold becomes an important trading currency (*cough* once we add trading *cough*). We felt like fame should be the major gain in PVP, and toning down the amount of gold stolen should make people feel more happy to save up.
