Planned Parenthood

There is opportunity for training in focused OB ultrasound examinations at Planned Parenthood on Wednesdays from 9am until all patients are seen (ending ~2pm). This experience is supervised by the Planned Parenthood staff and must be scheduled in advance. If not already part of your PGY1 Advanced Rotation calendar, PLEASE CONTACT DR. FONG TO SCHEDULE your date.

Preparation:

Please complete the required paperwork (attached below) and bring it with you to the clinic

Be sure to read the OB/GYN chapter in Noble's Manual of Emergency and Critical Care Ultrasound (or alternate introductory text). There are also some good reference materials to study in the clinic, if there is downtime in between patients.

Logistics

The clinic is located at:

330 N. Howard Street

Baltimore, MD 21201

(410) 576-1414

There are several parking options:

  • Metered street parking (2 hour maximum, so you will have to feed the meter)
  • Secured parking lot on Howard Street at Centre Street ($7 for full day)

For security, you can wear street clothing to the clinic and bring scrubs to change into.

To maintain security of PHI, please keep an patient log with only basic patient information -- demographics (age, gestational age, general presentation), type of US being performed (transabdominal, transvaginal, or both), and ultrasound findings. Expect to see about 10 patients during the day.

Getting credit for studies in Qpath:

  • Create a "dummy" patient with the name "YOUR NAME - PP SCANS" and use the "Auto ID" feature on the ultrasound machine to generate a random medical record number. Make sure to save at least one image before ending exam and uploading to Qpath
  • Split the study into as many as you need for the number of scans you performed. Ensure they are split/assigned appropriately to OB transabdominal or OB transvaginal
  • Enter basic patient demographic data (e.g. "20 y/o woman with 6 week IUP") and ultrasound findings and submit as usual.
