Exclusive Interview with Saurabh D Bhandare

Ph.D (Honoris Causa)

Question: What inspired you to enter into Pharmaceutics?

1. Answer: Pharmaceutics is a broad subject of study in pharmacy that offers a lot of opportunities for research.

In a nutshell, pharmaceutics is the study of the preparation, usage, and sale of therapeutic medications in formulation.

API, a chemical synthetic medication of pharmacological value, is a newer natural medicine.

This also involves research and development in the realm of novel chemical entities (NCEs) that are both safe and effective in drug use.

As a result of its vast scope in the realm of pharmaceutics, it can be described as the science of dosage form design, which involves the formulation of a pure pharmacological component into a dosage form.

It can be described as the science of dosage form design, which involves the formulation of a pure pharmacological component into a dosage form, due to its broad reach in the field of pharmaceutics.

The main source of inspiration in choosing pharmaceutics is the idea behind the establishment of the study of quantitative aspects of drug administration, which involves the design, development, and assessment of drugs in combination with an appropriate dosage form.

Pharmaceutics is the best therapy for human or mankind healing today.

To treat and cure the condition, ordinary pharmaceutics reaches the patient directly via appropriate and pleasant formulations. As a result, the broad breadth of treating and curing disease in both humans and animals has drawn attention to the creation of a healthy-driven culture that values healthy life and healthy living.

Question:Since how long, you been into this scientific field and in which cities you have been associated for administration, entrepreneurship, teaching, research, commercial and training programs?

Answer:

I've spent the last 4.5 years working in the scientific field. Working in majour cities such as:Bombay and, Nashik along with some villages associated to Nasik city in its remote rural areas.

Question:What are your future plans for administration, entrepreneurship, teaching, research and training programs in Pharmaceutics?

Answer:

It's rewarding to have worked in the field of pharmaceutics as part of a research training programme, teaching, along with other value-added fields.

Question:What kind of businesses can be started in Pharmaceutics? What minimum infrastructure would it need?

Answer:

Owing to a newer improve dosage delivery, type of formulations that can be developed including a great scope of business and as per the customer requirements. This improved dosage forms can be conventional and, also would help patient convenience in administration of dosage.

The minimum requirement of infrastructure at least of a chemical and, Pharmaceutical Laboratories that in compliance with cGMP guideline as well as other important guidelines that are required for preparation of dosage forms such as: USFDA, MHRA, etc.; along with the pharmacopoeias.

Question: What are your recommendations to improve the standards of journals publishing research articles on Pharmaceutics?

Answer:

Journals are already capacitors in Publication or publishing research work of novel standards as well review articles in the journal. Therefore, I must be recommending articles that include good life improving research in the field of pharmaceutics.

Question: What are your recommendations to improve syllabus of Pharmaceutics for more creativity, applications and opportunities?

Answer:

My recommendation would be to choose a syllabus that includes basic ideas as well standard concepts that includes industrial training guidelines and subjective information on new approaches in pharmaceutics which must include NDDS, TDDS, along with some expert’s solutions that would benefit and maintain the interest of students and, entrepreneurs in the field of pharmaceutics. Eliminating older concepts, outmoded notions and outdated knowledge or Technology is a must requirement and of great interest in today's era to improve in the field of Technology can acquire modernisation.

Question: What is Pharmaceutics? What are the major branches in Pharmaceutics?

Answer:

Pharmaceutics is the branch of scientific study that is concerned with the preparation use or sale of medicinal drugs either over the counter or on prescription.

pharmaceutics is the branch of pharmacy which includes the study of formulation of a drug into a dosage form. it is a systematic approach to get and effective and, stable formulation considering all aspects required to maintain its quality. it also deals with technology involved in large scale manufacturing of these dosage forms. it is the responsibility of manufacturing chemist to formulate a dosage form which is uniform, effective, stable, and, safe along with the information about its storage, use, precautions to be taken while it is administered and associated side effects. Thus, pharmaceutics is a branch which imparts the knowledge required out all these responsibilities to formulate a suitable and standard dosage form as needed or required.

Dosage form which are commonly dispensed in retail or Hospital pharmacy are tablets, sachets, mouthwashes, gargles, capsules, solutions, suspensions, emulsions, aerosols, aromatic water, dentifrices, ear drops, eye drops, enemas, nasal drops, cones, throat paints, gels, implants, innovations in inhalers, injections, jellies, linctuses, pessaries, spirit, tinctures, suppositories, glycerines, granules, elixirs, syrups, dry syrup, ointments, lotions, liniments, dusting powders, etc.

These all are included in pharmaceutics.

Dosage forms: depending upon the sterility, dosage forms can be classified as:

Sterile dosage forms and, non-sterile dosage forms.

1.Sterile dosage forms:

a. Parenteral dosage forms:

i. small volume parenterals.

example: Histrelin implants for the palliative treatment of prostate cancer and, uterine fibroids along with induced early puberty in children. (Supprelin), Levonorgestrel (Jadelle) and, estonogestrel (Implanon).

Other solid implants: found in ophthalmology for treatment of macular edema and, retinal vein occlusion using corticosteroids (Osurdex), with the products in the treatment of glaucoma (prostaglandins) and, age-related macular degeneration.

subcutaneous implants and, also Novel Drug Delivery forms such as: intrauterine devices (IUDs), and, intravaginal rings (IVRs).

FDA approved a levonorgestel eluting IUD, (Mirena), providing contraception for up to 5 years of its first use.

c. Pastes,

d. Jellies,

e. Poultices,

f. Plasters.

Liquid dosage forms:

a. Monobasic,

b. Inhalants.

Comments on requirements for drug delivery:

along with implantable devices, main materials, considerations for use in drug delivery include biocompatibility, stability and, durability (except in the case of biodegradable drug delivery systems), and, the ability of the material to control release of the active pharmaceutical ingredient. (API).

API, Matrix.

Ethyl vinyl acetate, (EVA).

biodegradable material such as: poly(Lactic-co-glycolic acid) or, PLGA to controllable released to drugs.

site specific, control release of therapeutic agents.

Pharmaceutics can be clearly understood as:

pharmaceutics is the discipline of Pharmacy that deals with all facets of process after learning a new chemical entity (NCE) or an API into a medication able to be safely and, effectively used by patience in the community. Pharmaceutics is the science of designing dosage form of therapeutic importance.

Question: What are your recommendations to frame guidelines on funding of research projects on Pharmaceutics?
