Farming, DATA, AND TECHNOLOGY GO HAND IN HAND!
With so many different advances in technology, it has given us an edge on helping our business grow. We use DairyComp(R) to keep a historic record of each animal throughout their lives, Bluetooth EID Readers for measuring movement of the animals to catch sickness quickly, AfiMilk(R) to measure the amount of milk given by each cow, and many more tools on the farm. It allows us to analyze the data of a large scale farm, but treat and care for each animal on an individual level. Data is very important on our farm.
The NIR or Near-Infra-Red scanner quickly measures the dry matter and moisture content of animal feeds. This allows the farm to monitor the feed for the cows and keep it as constant as possible!
AfiLab is an amazing tool for our dairy!! It allows us to measure fat, protein, and lactose. This is important because having this information allows us to find cows that may have upset stomachs, find them quickly and treat these cows or make diet changes that will help them feel better.
We use feed trucks to mix and grind the feed for the cows. The feed is poured into the feed trucks. The auger (mixer) in the truck spins and allows all of the ingredients to be spread out evenly. This helps all animals get an even distribution of the nutrients in the feed. The feed truck then will distribute the feed to the feed lanes.
