Holden Lutheran Parish – God’s Work, Our Hands Sunday
On Sunday, October 12th, members of Holden Lutheran Parish traded their pews for projects during God’s Work, Our Hands Sunday. Instead of gathering for regular worship, parish members spent the day serving others and sharing God’s love in practical ways.
Holden Lutheran Parish includes Mt. Morris Holden Lutheran Church and West Holden Lutheran Church, both led by Pastor Amy Penza. Members from both congregations joined together to serve a free community meal in the parking lot of Hope Lutheran Church. The event featured pumpkin decorating, children’s games, fleece blanket tying, and the distribution of free winter clothing, hats, mittens, socks, and blankets.
Other volunteers helped a local family by completing yard maintenance and improving their deck — a meaningful way to lend a helping hand where it was most needed.
“This event was a beautiful reminder that the church is not just a building,” shared Pastor Penza. “It’s people living out their faith through service and compassion.”
God’s Work, Our Hands Sunday reflects the Holden Lutheran Parish Mission Statement: As past and present partners in the Gospel, Mt. Morris Holden and West Holden members serve the community by giving of ourselves, proclaiming the good news of God’s love and salvation through Jesus Christ, and inviting and challenging all to join us in the mission to worship, witness, and outreach.
