Ho'iho'i i ka ‘Āina. Restore the land. Not just a project, but a legacy. Our government-based non-profit is based on O’ahu, Hawai’i, with one goal in mind: to preserve the health of our sacred lands for everyone and everything. Ho'iho'i i ka ‘Āina is more than planting trees or controlling forests—we’re an organization that seeks cultural revival, a healthy society, and security in our freshwater sources. Hawaiian culture focuses on sustainability, the practice of not only surviving and living now, but for our future generations.

At Ho'iho'i i ka ‘Āina, we research and partner with other organizations, corporations, and nonprofits to use our website as a portal for eventually everything restoration. As we grow, more organizations and more nonprofits will be added to help elevate and alleviate the troubling experience of finding a restoration project just for you. We know how much our lands mean to the people that live on them, and we are dedicated to help find something that will be perfect just for them.

Our Values

Here at Hoʻihoʻi i ka ʻĀina, we ground ourselves in Native Hawaiian values to bring a native perspective to modern land restoration. We believe the ʻāina is far more than the ground beneath our feet—it is the foundation of our culture, the source of our freshwater, and the livelihood of every community across Hawaiʻi. As our forests decline and native ecosystems disappear, we risk losing not only the land itself but also the traditions, knowledge, and identity that have sustained generations of Native Hawaiians. That is why we are committed to restoring native landscapes through culturally rooted stewardship, honoring ancestral practices while building a resilient future. Every tree planted, invasive species removed, and watershed restored is an investment in the health of our people, our environment, and the generations yet to come. At Hoʻihoʻi i ka ʻĀina, we are not simply restoring land—we are protecting Hawaiʻi's legacy and ensuring that the spirit of mālama ʻāina continues to thrive for centuries to come.

Our Founders

Lariah Trevenen-Ferreira

From Kailua, Oʻahu and attending Kamehameha Schools Kapālama, Lariah strives for leadership with an interest in the environment. She wanted to create something that would benefit both her people and the land she grew up on her whole life.

Kona Putnam

From Salt Lake, O'ahu attending Moanalua High School, Kona aims for leadership, discipline, and improving the state of Hawai'i. He wanted to make a website that is volunteer based and benefits the ʻāina.

Vincent Castaneda McKenna

From Kailua,Kona Hawaii and attending Kealakehe high school,Vincent (Vinny) loves to write and sing music, along with playing sports. While being very oriented to these things, he loves the ʻĀina, loves to do volunteer work, and wants to keep Hawaiʻi enjoyable.
