Ho'iho'i

Meaning, 'restore', this important word showcases our goal here: to bring native ecosystems and environments back to what they once were. Using both traditional and modern practices, we work in harmony with the land to revive and replenish endangered or dying pieces of the land.

Ko'o

Meaning, 'support', the old Hawaiian thinking was of maintaining what the 'āina had already given to them. Here, we support already existing ecosystems to help them continue to flourish and live to their fullest extent.

Sustainability

Although they never had a word for this, Native Hawaiians knew that they had to focus on providing for their grandchildren and their grandchildrenʻs children and so on and so forth. It was culture to assure that everything they did, every sapling they planted, every thing they built, would be usable for generations to come. And this is our exact goal, to steward the land for the future of our people.

How We Hoʻihoʻi

Ho'iho'i Ka 'Āina uses traditional Hawaiian practices, ranging from lo'i kalo to ahupua'a systems to use cultural and natural advanced systems; besides this, we also combine modern practices such as reforestation and regeneration. Using ancient practices such ahupuaʻa divisions help us easily understand the care and attention each piece of land needs. From Kailua to Waianae, we strive to pay careful attention to each unique and special ʻāina, working to restore it back to what it was.

How We Koʻo

Restoration is not our only goal--in order to restore, one must also be able to maintain. At Hoʻihoʻi ka ʻĀina, itʻs also important for us to continue to mālama the lands that we restore and the lands that we donʻt. Our specialists use their ʻike to keep a watch on the health and well-being of our precious moku, making sure that each one gets the attention it deserves. No matter how big or how small, every piece of ʻāina deserves flourishing health.
