Teacher- Jessie Mobley
Welcome to a new year of Kindergarten Religious Education! I am excited to begin this faith journey with your child. Throughout the year, we will explore our Catholic faith, learn about Jesus and His teachings, celebrate the liturgical year, pray together, and discover what it means to be a part of God's family.
Parents are a child's first and most important teachers of faith, and I am grateful for the opportunity to support you in that role. I hope the things we learn in class will give your family opportunities to talk about and practice our faith together at home.
THIS MONTH
I like to begin the year at the beginning—with Creation!
During our first month together, we will be looking at the wonderful world God created for us. We will talk about the plants, animals, people, and many other gifts of Creation that we see all around us. Most importantly, we will begin learning that God made each one of us, knows us, and loves us.
Our goal isn't simply to learn the story of Creation. I want the children to begin recognizing God's presence in the world around them and to understand that everything God created is a gift for us to enjoy, appreciate, and care for.
CHECK IT OUT!
Faith doesn't have to be complicated! Here are some simple ways to continue what we're learning in class at home this month:
Take a Creation Walk
Go for a walk together and see how many wonderful things you can find that God has given us. Trees, flowers, clouds, birds, sunshine—even bugs count!
How Many Animals Did God Create?
Sit together and see how many different animals your family can name. You might be surprised how long your list becomes!
Pray With Your Guardian Angel
Practice the Guardian Angel Prayer together:
Angel of God, my guardian dear,
to whom God's love commits me here,
ever this day be at my side,
to light and guard, to rule and guide.
Amen.
I Am Special to God
Look at pictures of your child as a baby and talk about how much they have grown. Remind them that God made them, has been with them as they've grown, and loves the special person He created them to be.
We will be learning about the story of Creation in class this month. Watch our Kindergarten retelling of the Creation story together at home.
After watching, ask your child:
What is your favorite thing that God created?
There are no wrong answers—and you might be surprised by what a Kindergartener chooses!
