God Gives Us Rules to Help Us Make Good Choices

As our children grow, they are learning every day how to make good choices. Thankfully, God gives us some help!

This month we will be introduced to the Ten Commandments. I like to explain them to the children as 10 simple rules God gave us to help us make good choices. We will talk about ways we can show our love for God and for one another through the choices we make every day.

At the Kindergarten level, our goal isn't to memorize or understand every detail of the Ten Commandments. Instead, we are beginning to learn that God loves us, wants what is best for us, and gives us rules to help us know right from wrong.

The Saints: God's Superheroes!

As we get ready to celebrate All Saints Day on November 1, we will also begin learning about the Saints.

Kindergarteners usually understand superheroes pretty well, so I like to tell them that the Saints are a little like superheroes! But instead of flying, having super strength, or being invisible, their special "power" is something much more important:

They love God with all their hearts!

The Saints were real people who tried to follow Jesus and make good choices—even when doing the right thing wasn't always easy. God has given us the Saints as examples to show us how we can live our own lives.

We will meet some of the Saints and learn about the different ways they loved and served God. Most importantly, the children will begin learning that God calls each of us to be a saint, too!
