The purpose of this organization shall be:
To engage in an authentic simulation of the United Nations (UN) system by learning about the UN system, the skills of debate, compromise, conflict resolution, and negotiation,
To enable MUN team members to have fun learning about the workings of world diplomacy through the lens of current events,
To help students achieve a global perspective,
To build a community of future leaders with the knowledge and skills necessary to make a difference in the increasingly global community in which they will one day lead.

Article 2: Membership
Section 1: Inclusion
Membership is open to all Hialeah-Miami Lakes Senior High School students and is strictly voluntary. Membership is subject to, but not limited to the following: a GPA of at least 2.5. Officers and members must demonstrate exceptional behavior (to include, yet not limited to: honesty, respectfulness, and adherence to school rules and civil law), and maintenance of satisfactory academic, effort and conduct grades in all classes.
Section 2: Exclusion
Membership in the HML MUN Club is withheld from a student deemed unworthy by suspension, academic probation, other serious disciplinary actions, or behavior inconsistent with the goals of the MUN Club as outlined in Article 1, Section 2

Article 4: Meetings
Section 1: Meetings are open to any member of the student body, any faculty member, any administrator of Hialeah-Miami Lakes Senior High School, or any contributing member of the community.
Section 2: Official MUN meetings shall be held at least once a month or more as needed, usually on the first and third Tuesday of each Month after school or during lunch. It should be anticipated that student preparation for competitions will extend well past any allotted meeting time.
Section 3: There must be a quorum (a quorum is 50 percent plus 1 of the active or dues paying members) present in order to take care of financial action.
Section 4: Minutes must be kept of all meeting proceeding by the club secretary or a designee.
Article 5: Election and Duties of Officers
Section 1: Officers of the MUN Club shall be elected at an official meeting of the school year. The Executive Council shall include: President, Vice President, Secretary,Treasurer, Historian, Parliamentarian, ICC Representative. Officers must be students who are members of the club in excellent standing.
Section 2: The President facilitates the work of the Club. The president presides at all general membership meetings; sends out bi-weekly messages/emails updating general membership on events, presents information covering the activities of the Club; works closely with the advisor and executive board to maintain retention of members, organizes a quarterly alumni panel to link alumni with current members, enforces Club guidelines. They should delegate authority, develop new leadership, and represent the Club in the school and community at large. They will work with the club sponsor and help prepare for conferences.
Section 3: The Vice-President is required to research and report on possible conferences that the club may want to attend, moderate if needed, take over in the absence of the president, and maintain constant contact with the president on all issues pertaining to the Club as well as helping with simulations. The Vice-President is also in charge of coordinating social events within the club (at least one per quarter) and works to foster cohesion among club members. Assists in all MUN/SSHS activities and other duties as assigned.
Section 4: The Secretary record accurate minutes of all meetings of the Club, which should include election results and assignments to specific duties; works with the president to prepare for the Club’s meetings and trainings; maintains attendance; and performs all the customary duties of a secretary. Assists in all MUN/SSHS activities and other duties as assigned.
Section 5: The Treasurer is responsible for maintaining all financial records for the Club, including providing oversight for dues and conference fees. He/she works with the president to coordinate budget and budget proposals for MUN conferences. Spearheads all fundraising programs and assists with any other fundraisers initiated by the club. During meetings, the treasurer should report actual financials versus the budget and ensure that all officers and members understand the club’s financial status.
Section 6: The Historian acts as the chief liaison for the dissemination of all types of information, like written articles, photography, videography, social media posts, etc., regarding our club activities. He/She is in charge of creating advertisement for the club, representing the club at various school and community functions (i.e. Club Day), maintains and regularly updates our club website, takes pictures and keeps historical records for MUN/SSHS. Assists in all MUN/SSHS activities and other duties as assigned.
Section 7: The Parliamentarian is knowledgeable of basic parliamentary procedure and responsible for meeting management during general meetings and MUN simulations. He/She shall assist the organization in drafting and interpreting the bylaws and rules of order in the MUN simulations. The Parliamentarian shall also assist with planning and conducting the simulation practices, provides recommendations to the presiding officer regarding the conduct of chapter meetings, advises chapter members about the use of parliamentary procedure. Assists in all MUN/SSHS activities and other duties as assigned.
Section 8: The ICC Representative will attend all Inter Club Council meetings on behalf of HML MUN/SSHS and serve as our club’s advocate at these proceedings. The representative will report the results of ICC meetings at general club meetings.
Article 6: Impeachment/Removal and Replacement of Officers and Members
Section 1: All elected officers may be subjected to impeachment and removal by a two-thirds majority vote of the total membership.
Section 2: Grounds for impeachment are negligence and any form of misconduct which is damaging to the club. An officer/member may be impeached/removed only under the following conditions: there must be a quorum present during impeachment/removal; two-thirds of the membership must vote; prior to impeachment/removal there must be one week’s notice of intent publicized.
Section 3: Replacement of officer(s) shall be filled in the following manner (Line of succession – in absence of President, Vice-President, Treasurer, Secretary, Historian, Parliamentarian, ICC Rep)
Article 7: Sponsors
Section 1: The sponsor(s) of the club shall be Ms. Rukayat Adebisi, and any additional faculty sponsors that are appointed. Ms. Adebisi shall serve as sponsor until unable to do so.
Article 8: Funds and Revenue
Section 1: The expenditure of funds from the treasury shall be presented and voted upon by the members of the MUN Club present.
Section 2: Fundraising projects will consist only of Administration approved activities and donations from the community.
Section 3: Dues shall be determined by the club members and shall be collected
annually and paid at the first club activity.
Article 8: Source of Power and Supervision
Section 1: There shall be a faculty Advisor appointed by the Principal. This Advisor shall be directly responsible to the Assistant Principal in charge of Student Activities. In the event that a 2/3 majority of the members of the Model United Nations Club feel that the Advisor is not doing his/her best, the Principal then has the obligation to talk to the Advisor and if necessary, in his/her judgment, replace that Advisor.
Article 9: Trips-Provisions
Section 1: In order to attend trips with the MUN Club you must first be a member of the club in good standing. You must have paid dues for the school year. You must also attend at least 1⁄2 of the scheduled meetings.
Section 2: The Miami Dade County Public School Student Code of Conduct will be enforced during all club activities and trips. Students violating district codes will be subject to disciplinary action.
Article 10: Amendments to Constitution
Section 1: Any amendment change requires a two-thirds vote at a general meeting, copies distributed to all club members, Officers, and the HML Student Activities Director.
