Navigation Apps

While Google or Apple Maps maybe free and often used; there are other options available which provide added functionality like social networking and organising group rides... A good summary of the app features is here from: MotoMappers (although biased as they are the Scenic software house).

Appreciate your contribution to build the list also. Please email hkmrgroup@gmail.com with a description and link and it will be added.

Navigation Apps

Rever - A bit like a social app. It combines navigation, planning, events and friend interactions in one app. Nice, but mostly used in Europe and USA and little functions for Hong Kong

Sygic - Is a solid navigation app, but no special routes for motorcycles.

Scout - Apps on the relevant Appstores. No specific routes for motorcycles

Apple Maps - On your phone already. Nice to use, if you also have an Apple watch as it will show the turn-by-turn information there. No specific routes for motorcycles

Google Maps - Download from the appstore. Very easy planning on the web and transfer of the route to your phone, but not a good planning software and no routes special to bikes!!

TomTom Go - Paid App. Pay per km usage. But one of the most professional Apps on the market.

Scenic - An app especially designed for motorcycle navigation on the smartphone. Good in combination with kurviger.de as a planning tool. Specific routes for motorcycles are planned.

Here - Very accurate navigation sponsored by some of the big car companies in Europe. No specific routes for motorcycles.

Waze - Available from your Appstore - Navigation with realtime events postings from other users

Of course, all the above navigations are able to plan to a certain extend as well, but to plan a trip on the computer and transfer to a navi app, these are specialised:

  • kurviger.de - Simple, good planning tool - Can export to Scenic directly and others via GPX or other formats. Special for motorcycles
  • Calimoto - I did not use this app so far, but learnt it is good for motorcycle specific planning.
