Career Goals
and how I got there!
and how I got there!
Growing up, I was deeply involved in color guard and winter guard, and I served as captain of both teams for three years. That experience was about so much more than performing, it taught me how to lead with empathy, how to work with people’s physical and emotional strengths, and how to support others through challenges. It was the first time I saw how movement and encouragement could build confidence, and it planted the seed for the career I’m working toward now.
My interest in helping others grew even more when I worked at the Anderson Minority Health Coalition's spring break camp, where I guided children through wellness activities and saw how small interventions could make a huge impact, especially for kids who didn’t always have access to health education or support. Now, I’m studying Exercise Science with a minor in Health Psychology at IU Indianapolis, interning with the IU School of Medicine to help improve medical education, and working as a physical therapy aide where I support patients as they regain strength and mobility. Each experience builds on the last, shaping me into the kind of occupational therapist I want to be: one who helps people build independence, overcome obstacles, and feel truly seen.
I have set several career goals that align with my passions for helping children and my experiences in both physical therapy and health education. My first goal is to complete my undergraduate degree in Exercise Science, with a minor in Health Psychology, which will provide a strong foundation for my future in Occupational Therapy. After earning my degree, I plan to pursue a Doctor of Occupational Therapy (OTD), where I’ll deepen my understanding of rehabilitation and gain hands-on experience in clinical settings. This will be the next crucial step in becoming an occupational therapist who not only helps people recover but helps them thrive.
During my OTD program, I plan to seek out internships and clinical rotations that focus on pediatric care, giving me the chance to specialize in this area and refine my skills. I also aim to engage in research projects that examine the impact of occupational therapy, particularly in pediatric rehabilitation, to further my expertise and contribute to the field. Upon graduation, I am committed to becoming a licensed occupational therapist, ideally in a hospital or clinic specializing in pediatric care. My long-term goal is to be an advocate for children’s health and wellness, whether through community outreach programs, workshops, or policy advocacy, and work to improve accessibility and education on physical activity and injury prevention. I am dedicated to making a meaningful impact on people's lives, and I will continue to work hard to achieve this vision.
