Submission Guidelines
Eligibility
All undergraduate students and recent graduates from two-year and four-year institutions are eligible to submit to the Historical Review, with preference given to students from the University of Washington (all campuses) and two-year colleges in Washington state.
The Historical Review accepts 1) papers written for a course, 2) independent research, and 3) book and film reviews.
Research papers must be at least 10 double-spaced pages in length. Book and film reviews should be no longer than eight double-spaced pages.
Thesis submissions are original research guided solely by the author without a prompt from a professor. They must be at least 10 double-spaced pages in length.
Criteria
Is the argument strong, original, and compelling?
Does the paper demonstrate a good use of evidence?
Is the analysis clear and thorough?
Is the paper clearly structured and well organized?
Formatting
10-30 pages (not including bibliography, longer papers will be considered but will be edited to conform to these guidelines)
Abstract of around 250 words (optional)
Times New Roman, 12 pt. font, double spaced
Chicago citation style, with bibliography
How to Submit
If you would like your paper to be considered for publication, please send us an email with the subject line "Paper Submission" to historicalreviewatuw@gmail.com including the following:
Your name, year, major(s), and email address
The course, instructor or faculty mentor, quarter, and year
*If the paper was written for a course in response to a question assigned by the instructor, please forward an email from the instructor granting permission for the submission of the particular paper along with the other submission materials.
The paper (with title and abstract if applicable) as an attachment with all identifying information removed
*Up to one submission per submission round
*The Historical Review does not republish papers previously published in other journals. Please inform us if your paper was accepted for publication by another journal.
