Gunting

Gunting is a cutting tool consisting of two sharpened metal blades joined by a screw or pivot, allowing the blades to open and close against each other. It is used to cut various materials such as paper, cloth, thread, hair, plastic, and even plants. Scissors come in many forms and sizes, depending on their purpose—household, tailoring, gardening, or grooming. 

The Gunting has been an important tool in Filipino homes, schools, and workplaces for generations. Tailors and seamstresses use it for cutting fabric, students for crafts and projects, and barbers for grooming. In the past, strong metal scissors were prized possessions, often kept carefully to last for years. Over time, the Gunting evolved in design and material, but its function remained the same—simple, reliable, and essential.
