Here at Post 19, there is a path that leads up the big hill to Canyon Rim Drive, be careful going up though. Try not to take a tumble and hurt yourself. With the grass lying on the trail, it's easy to hurt yourself if you slip.
On this Blue Oak here, can you see the slight bluish tint on the leaves. This is because to prevent water loss because of transpiration, Blue Oaks evolved to have a layer of wax on their leaves, but if you rub the leaf, the wax will come off and you'll be able to see its true green color. Also be careful going on as the path here is rocky and uneven.
Blue Oak is extremely drought resistant because of how little water it needs. This is why Blue Oaks make up half of the oaks here in California. It grows very slowly and is quite sensitive to the environment around it which is why we should protect them.
