Volunteer & Team Captain Opportunities
Highway to Home is a community event supporting shelter dog adoptions and providing welcome-home supplies for adopted dogs.
Our event includes a motorcycle ride, car show, dog adoption area, family activities, games, raffles, vendors, and more.
We are currently seeking Team Captains and Volunteers to help lead and support each area of the event.
Team Captains will oversee their assigned section, coordinate volunteers, and ensure their area runs smoothly.
Each Team Captain will receive a Captain Packet with instructions, supply lists, and volunteer assignments for their zone.
EVENT ZONES / TEAM CAPTAIN AREAS
Motorcycle Ride (Poker Run): Coordinates rider check-in, route information, and return flow for the motorcycle ride portion of the event.
Car Show: Organizes vehicle parking areas, participant check-in, judging coordination, and award announcements.
Dog Adoption & Rescue Area: Works with participating rescue groups, assists visitors, and helps keep the adoption area organized and welcoming.
Raffle & Gift Basket Station: Manages raffle basket displays, ticket sales, drawings, and winner announcements.
Kids Zone (Bouncy House & Crafts): Supervises children’s activities including bounce houses and craft stations while maintaining safety and supply organization.
Games & Activity Zone: Runs yard games, contests, and activity stations for families attending the event.
Vendor & Food Truck Area: Assists vendors and food trucks with check-in, placement, and basic coordination throughout the event.
Registration / Welcome Table: Greets guests, answers questions, directs visitors to event areas, and provides general event information.
Event Setup & Breakdown: Coordinates morning setup and end-of-event cleanup including tents, tables, signs, and equipment.
Transportation & Logistics: Coordinates volunteers with trucks, trailers, or larger vehicles who can assist with moving equipment or supplies before and after the event.
TEAM CAPTAIN INFORMATION
Team Captains are responsible for:
Arriving early to prepare their assigned area
Coordinating volunteers within their zone
Following the supply checklist for their section
Communicating with event leadership if issues arise
Assisting with breakdown of their station at the end of the event
Each Captain will receive a Captain Packet with:

CAPTAIN PACKET FORMAT
Each Team Captain will receive a printable packet that includes the following:
Event Information
Event Name
Date
Rain Date
Captain Check-In Time
Captain Meeting Location
Zone Overview: A brief description of the purpose of the zone and how it operates during the event.
Setup Checklist: Step-by-step list of items that must be completed before the event begins.
Volunteer Assignments: Suggested roles for volunteers working within the zone.
Supplies List: Items needed to run the station effectively.
During Event Responsibilities: Guidelines for maintaining organization and safety throughout the event.
Breakdown Instructions: Steps for cleaning up and packing materials at the end of the event.
VOLUNTEER SIGN-UP
Individuals interested in volunteering can complete the Volunteer Sign-Up Form on this page.
Volunteers will be asked to provide:
Name
Phone number
Preferred area of the event
Availability during the event
Interest in Team Captain roles
Leadership positions will be updated on the website as they are filled.
If a Captain position is filled, volunteers may still sign up to assist within that section.
