Had many children; including Henry Blackshaw and Edward Blackshaw; who both became prominent figures in Goulburn.
Arrived in Australia as a Free Settler on 'The Britton'
Worked with William Bradley in the Goulburn Brewery
Built a house called “Foston”; now where Hole No. 2 is at the golf course
Established Foston’s Brewery 45m north from his house
Sunk at least 2 wells around Eastgrove; water was sold for 9 pence a barrel
The great flood of 1864 temporarily ruined him, and he was re-employed by Bradley until he could re-establish his own brewery in 1872
