Part 10 The Activity

Call to Action:

On this Tree each participant is given two leaves that they will (draw / design / colour) and attach to the tree to indicate:

1: Something they are grateful for.

2: Some new action they might take, now that they have had the experience of the day.

Gratitude Tree

(10 Minutes)

The member of the ATD with the Lived Experience of Poverty is given 5 or 6 minutes to make their own testimony in the presence of the group and others on the floor are invited to question if this is appropriate or if the person making this testimony is comfortable with this. (This may not be possible unless you have contacted ATD for accompaniment as you deliver this presentation).

The final part of this testimony after the Q & A. The person making the testimony will explain that he / she is grateful for…… family, company, fresh air, friends, or whatever…. And write it on a leaf that will then be the first leaf on a gratitude tree.

(5 Minutes)

Those participating are offered a chance to write what they are grateful for (on leaves - see resources) and then to stick it on the tree also.

We will leave this tree with them as a reminder of what we are all grateful for and encourage the staff to hang it in a place of prominence in the school to encourage others to add to it or at least reflect upon what it means.

By printing off the leaves the students can cut out, colour and name what they are grateful for.

This too could be another talking point.

Leaves are then gathered and built into a tree for all to see (later)

That may offer it's own talking points and can be put in a place of prominence and could be added to by others at a later stage.

(There are templates below that might be of help in zeroing in on both the personal and / or family action).
