Heslington Church offers an attractive venue for your church wedding. It's a flexible building in a pretty location, situated within the ring road of historic York, providing easy access and on-site parking.
As an ecumenical partnership Heslington Church offers wedding services in two different church traditions: Anglican (Church of England) or Methodist. These services are very similar, but for a Methodist service you need to obtain a Registrar's Certificate, whereas for an Anglican service you don't. However, for an Anglican service you need to have a 'connection' with Heslington Church, whereas for a Methodist service you don't.
You can have an Anglican service if either of you has one of the following six connections:
One of you:
was baptised in the parish concerned or
was prepared for confirmation in the parish or
has at any time lived in the parish for a period of at least 6 months or
One of your parents, at any time after you were born:
has lived in the parish for a period of at least 6 months or
has regularly gone to normal church services in the parish church for a period of at least 6 months or
One of your parents or grandparents:
was married in the parish
Does none of the above apply to either of you? Don't despair! It only means that one of you will have to 'regularly go to normal church services in the parish church for a period of at least 6 months'. In practice that means that one of you will have to visit a service, at least once a month, over a period of six month before your wedding date. If that is a problem, why not choose a Methodist service instead?
The wedding fees vary from £580 to over £750, depending on the options you choose (organist, bells, flowers, etc). A typical service will cost you in the region of £675. You can find more information in the Wedding Booking Form, which can be requested from the Vicar.
If you have been married before, special permission is required. This means that you will have to have a conversation with the minister.
If you are not a British national, and if you do not live in the European Economic Area, you may still be able to get married, but it will require significantly more paperwork.
