The Malta Atlas of Reptiles and Amphibians is a collection of terrestrial herpetofauna found across the Maltese Islands. This HerpAtlas contains species profiles for the 13 reptiles and amphibians known to occur in the Maltese archipelago. The aim of the atlas is to collate all relevant information about these species and their distribution in one place to provide a user-friendly format for public use.
The information found on this webpage has been sourced from books, scientific publications, and existing databases. The HerpAtlas will contribute to the protection of herpetofauna in Malta, and can be used by different people from various backgrounds, ranging from the general public who would like to become more informed about the biodiversity in their locality, to environmental authorities who require additional information for appropriate land management.
We greatly encourage the general public to help improve our understanding of the distribution of reptiles and amphibians in Malta by submitting any sightings here.
