For this project, I explored about the impacts that social media has on society as a whole.
When taking the AM I ADDICTED TO SOCIAL MEDIA QUIZ?, I realized that I don't use social media as much as I thought. I knew I wasn't "Addicted" but I do spend a lot of time on social media. The results said:
"Congratulations! Psychologists estimate that as many as 5 to 10% of Americans meet the criteria for social media addiction today. But luckily, that's not you! Not checking social media every few minutes doesn't make you feel anxious, as you prefer to live 'in the moment' rather than through your apps. You use social media to your advantage, at work and to connect with friends and family, but you know when to put it away. Keep it up!"
I definitely expected it, I knew in the back of my mind that I was not addicted but also at the same time I don't know because I am the type to wake up in the morning and the first thing I do is check my phone and my social medias, and there are some days that I do feel like I am addicted, especially on boring days when I have nothing to do.
This shows the age gaps in different social media platforms in 2021. I think this is really interesting because I did not know that there were so many people who use Snapchat. Personally, I stopped using Snapchat in 2019, and it's pretty interesting to look at the different people/age groups who use it.
In my personal opinion, I think that there are some ways that social media can be both positive and negative. On the positive side, I think that social media is an amazing platform where people can be themselves and express themselves, whether it is through pictures, If you wanna communicate with people, or even create videos, I like to think that it can create communities and bring people together. On the other hand, a big negative is the toxicity that it can bring. The reason there even are quizzes about being obsessed with Social Media is because it is a real thing. People do end up being obsessed and it can affect society as a whole because people can start to become lazy and not want to go out, just want to post their day to day life or even soley communicate with people on Social Media.
I learned that even though im not completely obsessed with Social Media, I believe that I could do little things to prevent that from happening because there are days where I feel like I am obsessed and taking that quiz helped me realize little stuff that I do that could lead to an obsessed result.
