How to birth your brood stone

First of all, if you are the proud new guardian of a Brood Stone, you will need to birth it. DO NOT OPEN the stone or copy contents into your inventory! This will cause serious damage to your baby chimera. Simply rezz the stone and Left Click. Select Birth on the blue menu. The stone will appear to crack and soon your baby chimera will appear.

Check to make sure your chimera is the most up-to-date version. The current version is 3.0. If your new baby is not a 3.0, simply run it through the most current Summoning Portal (3.0 Patch 1.0) or run it through a current Den.

Website Registration

While you are at the main store, you should take a minute to register on the Obsidian Chimera website. http://www.obsidianchimeras.com  To register simply left click the inworld sign here: Obsidian Main Sim  􀀍

The menu will walk you through registration. This will allow you to access the many tools available to you. The website features a real time database where you can look at your chimeras and see your brood stones, frozen pets, and animals released to the wild. It is a great tool to plan your breeding schemes, replace missing or wonky animals, or call chimeras to you (through the Summoning Portal) no matter where you are on the grid.

Pro tip: Did you know you can wear your portal or den as a HUD? Simply right mouse click on it from your inventory and attach to HUD. You can carry your chimeras with you around the grid and they will still eat.

Summoning Portal and Dens

The Summoning Portal is an important part of keeping your chimeras in tip top condition. Most problems encountered in chimera guardianship can be resolved by running your chimera through the Summoning Portal or through a Den. Tutorial

The Chimera Den is not required to keep your chimera healthy. I recommend investing in a Den. A Den is only 1 LI and houses up to 10 chimeras. Chimeras must have access to the server at all times. Whether it is rezzed in-world, attached to your avatar (more on that later), or safely tucked away in a den, your chimera will be able to eat. Chimeras deprived of food will eventually become sick.

Pro tip: Did you know you can wear your portal or den as a HUD? Take your den or portal into inventory and right click on it. Select Attach to HUD and choose a position. You can edit it into place and easily move your chimeras around the grid without putting them into inventory. Wear a den with your fighters and you are ready to hit the wild. Wear another to safely store your newly captured chimeras! Tutorial

The Obsidian Circle

As a new apprentice alchemist, it is important to be inducted into the Obsidian Circle so that you can begin participating in research and discovery events. The Faction Diviner will assess which Order best suits your inner essence and place you accordingly.  The four orders of the Obsidian Circle are Aqua, Ignus, Lapis, and Sonus. You can find out more information on the community page.

Using the Vendors

Tutorial Link

The Multi-Vendors are located in the main store and in all affiliate markets. You can navigate through pages of goods by left clicked in the silver arrows at the bottom of the vendor. If you don't see the page you want on the vendor, just advance through the pages until you find what you are looking for.

If the vendor is not working for you, check to make sure you are close enough (within 5 meters) to make a purchase. If you are too far away, the vendor will not allow you to buy. Also make sure another avatar is not in range of the same vendor, again this will cause the vendor to not acknowledge you.

Another problem that can occur is if you advance too quickly through the pages, especially if there is lagginess, the vendor can become confused about what you are purchasing. Take your time advancing through the pages and let the vendor catch up to you before you make a purchase.

You will see the following message when you have successfully completed a purchase:

purchase: You have completed your transaction, your items shall be delivered shortly.

An object named Vendor Server 3.0 gave you this folder: 'Obsidian Chimera Purchase 202X-XX-XX'

Food

Tutorial Link

You will want to purchase food for your chimera at the Obsidian Chimera main store  or at any of the affiliate satellite stores.  One box of Chimera Chow will feed one chimera for 28 days. You will receive a folder named Obsidian Chimera Purchase and the date. Rezz the Chimera Food Crate to the floor and left mouse click. This will load the food to you account.

You will receive a message like this:

Chimera Food Crate x20: You have added 20 boxes of food to your food storage.

DO NOT open the crate or copy its contents to inventory!  This will break the crate and you will not receive your food!

All food is completely server-based, so you don't need to worry about having a food source out in-world. You can pick up a free Food Bin while you are at the store. The food bin is a handy in-world representation of how much food you have left in reserve, but it is not required. Checking your breeder profile is an even better way to check your food reserves. As all food is completely server-side, so your chimeras will eat as long as they are able to connect to the server. They will eat while attached to you, while they are rezzed out in-world, and while in dens that are rezzed out in-world. They will not eat while in your inventory or if you log out with a chimera attached to you.

Traveling with your chimera

You will find that the chimera is a multi-faceted pet. They make for great additions to the family and provide hours of delightful entertainment as they explore their surroundings. Based on their nature, they will interact with you differently. Let them Roam and many antics will ensue. They are also faithful companions that can accompany you on adventures throughout Second Life. The Follow mode will allow the chimera to follow you on your sim or anywhere that you can rezz them. But it is limited to one sim. IF you teleport away, they will stay behind. However, if you attach your chimera to avatar center, it acts as an attachment and will accompany you through teleports and stay by your side.  It will continue to eat when it is attached. Just remember to detach and rezz in-world before you log out, so it can continue to access the server.
