In order to fish with your chimera, you must first get a Fishing Skill Materia to add the fishing “skill” to your animal. There are currently 4 types of skill materia available: surface, shallow, deep, and bottom fishers. These indicate the types of fish you will get when you send your chimera fishing. They will not however affect the common alchemy ingredients you receive. The same ingredients will be found in all types of fish. However, each fish type has a specific rare ingredient that it can give. These rare ingredients are needed for the more advanced alchemy recipes.
Rezz the skill materia near your chimera and left click. A blue menu will pop up asking you to choose which chimera in the vicinity you would like to use. Select and confirm your selection. You will also need to purchase bait for your chimera fish. Simply rezz the bait and click it to load your bait into the server.
Finally you will need the Chimera HUD Selector, available at the main sim. When wearing the HUD, select the Fishing button and it will attach the fishing HUD to your avatar. Enter the ID number of the Chimera you will use to fish and enter how many baits you wish to use in this session. If you want to stop fishing, click on the bobber for five second; you will not lose any bait that is left in the session. Otherwise, your chimera will continue to fish until the allotted bait is used up.
Your chimera will bring you a variety of objects which must be picked up within 5 minutes. A countdown timer will let you know your time remaining. Wet Sacks contain special surprises and simply need to be left clicked to collect the contents.
Troubleshooting:
If you have to leave the area, your chimera will await your return before dropping its catch. If you need to be afk for a short period of time, make sure to move your avatar at least 50 meters away, so that you are not losing fish and bait.
