The military of Helheim has evolved from a rabble of men-at-arms to a professional force of soldiers and sailors. Standards are high and the training is designed to enforce discipline and order on to new recruits.
Any qualified Guard may teach new Recruits the below lessons.

Oath to the Crown - “I hereby swear on my honour and all that I hold dear, to protect the Crown and keep its secrets, follow all orders given to me in spirit and in letter, protect Helheim and its people, until the end of my days. Long live the Queen.” To be recited by any citizen of Helheim wishing to become a Recruit
Only Helheim citizens of good standing can become Recruits in the Helheim Military.
The Recruit period is intended for a potential Guard, experienced in the ways or war or otherwise, to learn Helheim's particular style of military organisation.
This period should last a minimum of two weeks to ensure suitability in the military and up to several weeks, at the end of which one of three outcomes shall occur;
Promotion to Guard, following a short examination by the promoting Officer who shall be a Sergeant or above.
Recruit period extended - Recruits which require more training, but whom are deemed suitable fits for the Royal Guard may receive further training.
Conclusion of enlistment - Recruits found unsuitable for Royal Guard duty, whatever the reason may be, shall be removed from the military by a senior officer, a decision not taken lightly. Note: All citizens remain eligible for conscription in times of crisis.
Below are a list of tasks required to attain promotion, a majority of which should be concluded before becoming a Guard.
The chain of command - To include an explanation that ranks are not to be skipped to get a more favourable answer.
Saluting - When and how.
Ranks and titles of the Guard, Nobility and Royalty.
Report writing - Reports are to be factual and not conversational, opinions on statecraft are unwanted and reports are to be considered kingdom secrets.
Procedures - Limits of authority, no acting in Helheim’s name outside of its walls.
Welcoming presence - Guards are representatives to the Crown and it’s ambassadors, new citizens are needed for labour and tax. The Helheim military only seeks professional soldiers.
Each Recruit shall stand a silent vigil for a time guarding the Lost Soldier and Sailor Memorial before they can become a full Guard.
Musketry - Basic combat with a rifle, shooting, reloading, caring for.
Cannonry - Basic loading and firing of a large cannon.
Combat prowess assessment - Recruit’s weapon of choice in sparring sessions.
Basic battlefield triage - Healing skills from a military or civilian healer.
Major city landmarks - Learn the four major districts and military assets.
Meeting and guarding important people - Royalty & Nobility, Recruits should make an effort to meet people in the city.
