The competent teacher structures a safe and healthy learning environment that facilitates cultural and linguistic responsiveness, emotional well-being, self-efficacy, positive social interaction, mutual respect, active engagement, academic risk-taking, self-motivation, and personal goal-setting.
This morning check in board was created on the 22nd of February. It was created to provide the students independence and guidance in their learning environment. This was produced to encourage the students to be in a positive routine. This was to support the student's in their transition of coming into school to the classroom. This artifact contains what the student's will do as they transition into the classroom, morning work, lunch card, handing in their homework and looking for future announcements that is important for the students and the class as a whole.
This artifact shows significance and demonstrates how important it is to set up a positive and inviting classroom for all learners. For morning routines, I would have monthly slides that I would use to support student's learning. For example, February was valentine's day theme and March was St. Patrick's day theme. The students created a sense of independence as well as organization to support and encourage their success in the classroom. The students coming in the morning would see what was expected from them as well as the students would use the morning slide to encourage one another of what they had to do. This artifact demonstrates and connects well to the indicator chosen. 4A indicator expresses, " Understands principles of and strategies for effective classroom and behavior management;" (4A). Watching my students use the morning slides has given them skills to transition, follow through with given tasks and be ready to start their day in a positive way.
I really felt the use of using morning check in slides not only encouraged the student but also expressed and demonstrated motivation in their social emotional well being, academics and behavioral well-being. It is important to created an environment of which positive and effective strategies are created to encourage and establish an inclusive environment for all to learn and be a part of. I look forward to using these slides in my future classroom and give my students an engaging and effective classroom of learning.
For this standard I created an artifact that is about, classroom rules and expectations for the classroom. This was created during the first week of student teaching, January 12th, 2023. This artifact contains rules and expectations that were created by the students and I. It was important to implement these rules and expectations to serve the students in a positive and healthy learning environment. This was produced to provide guidance to the students, to encourage and motivate themselves in their learning environment. Students need to be able to learn and be encouraged in their classroom not only by their teachers but also by their peers. Students are encouraged to give their best everyday and to be present in their learning.
This artifact is connected with the indicator 4F. As expressed in the indicator, "Understands laws, rules and ethical considerations regarding behavior intervention planning and behavior management (e.g., bullying, crisis intervention, physical restraint); (4F). When the students created the list of rules, they were encouraged to create rules that came from their heart and that also created a positive space for learning. The students paired and shared with one another and created together a variety of classroom rules that were respectful and met the needs of all in the classroom, both students and staff. The students were excited that they were able to create their own environment that would support their academic and social-emotional well being. This indicator connects well with the artifact because for students it is important to understand the classroom rules and expectations set for them to all be successful learners. It is important to create an effective and positive climate classroom for all learners.
The importance of this artifact is to build classroom management, a classroom of differentiation for all students to be successful in their academics but also in their emotional well-being. It is important that we as educators create an environment for all learners to learn and for the students to create their own learning environment. It is important to understand and establish a welcoming environment, an environment that we can all learn in especially for our students. The students would also use our rules and expectations to keep themselves motivated and on task.
