ROOM 218 POETRY
Here are two examples up close. One of my students receives Special Education minutes for reading and writing and the other student is full time in the classroom. I had the pleasure of having my student who receives Special Education minutes during my writing. My student did a wonderful job creating their acrostic poem of who they are.
This lesson was created on March 16th, 2023. This lesson was created for the subject: Writing. The lesson created was about, Poetry: Acrostic Poems. It was produced to to teach the students the use of elements of poetry through creating their own piece poetry, acrostic poems. The students were introduced to Diamante Poetry and now were introduced to Acrostic Poetry. I had the opportunity to have two of my student's who receive Special Education Minutes for Reading and Writing during this lesson. When I was creating this lesson, I wanted to ensure the student's needs and goals would be met and accommodated for this lesson. It was important to connect with the Special Education Teacher and ensure the student's goals, needs and accommodations would be met for this lesson.
I created this artifact to express the importance of one being able to work well along with all educators that are a part of the student's journey. This artifact shows great evidence of understanding the standard as well as the progress the students made with the previous taught material of understanding the elements of poetry. The students successfully created Diamante Poems during the beginning of understanding the elements of poetry. For the students to achieve the learning targets, I specifically had student's pair up and discuss ideas and thoughts with one another. The students did well being able to support one another in editing their work before completing the final product for example building collaboration with one another. For this particular lesson, the motivation of the students in using the elements of poetry supported their creations of Acrostic poems. As it states from the performance indicator, "works well with others to adapt and modify instruction to meet individual needs; and" (3P). This indicator expressed not only working well with other educators but ensuring the needs of the student are met and the learning targets are supported using the students goals. It is important to build inclusion for all students.
The importance of this lesson taught me how collaboration is key in the success of the student as well as working relationships. I also felt it is important that differentiated instruction occurs in the classroom. Every student is a part of the classroom, all teachers work together to create a united and collaborative working environment. This lesson overall expressed and demonstrated how the needs of the individual students were met and encouraged.
This artifact was completed during my third observation Math Lesson. It was created for March 17th, 2023 lesson. The students were given a lesson on representing equations that were addition and subtraction using a number line. This exit slip: also known as a cool down was used to measure and observe how the student was able to display the content of the material that was taught during the lesson. This was given at the end of the lesson of which all students completed. I as the teacher graded the cool downs and was able to sort who did well, met the learning targets and objectives and those students who may need more review on the material taught.
The importance of this artifact was to be able to identify the students who understood the significance of a number line and how to use and represent equations using a number line. Specifically, I had the students using the Ben Q Board to draw their number lines, representing equations. The students also demonstrated the important elements of a number lines by correctly labeling using tick marks, equal spaces and numbers. The students were also asked to be able to create an equation using a number line that was given. As it states in the indicator, "understands when and how to adjust plans based on outcome data, as well as student needs, goals and responses "(3D). I was able to evaluate and understand how the student's work met the objectives and learning targets set for this lesson. The student's work demonstrated great success and higher level thinking from some of the peers in the class. The student showed mastery of the skills in this set lesson and my plan is to continue to work with the success of the student and increase the student's goals during this time as well as the other students who did well.
The learning displayed and created from this lesson expressed how this paticular student applied all skills to their work. They were able to demonstrate how as well as verbally express to me how the equation was created and the significance of representing the equation on the number line. This type of resource is beneficial and key to obtaining data of how students are able to take in information, comprehend vocabulary and apply strategies taught. This is important to me also because I am able to see which group of students may need more support and work in smaller group instruction activities and for my students who were able to master the set skill and target be challenged in future math activities.
