Kisumu is the biggest city in Kenya after Nairobi and Mombassa, the probably have around 400.000 inhabitants. The last time that they counted the inhabitants was in 1999, then there were 322.000 inhabitants. It's a city at the harbour on the North-coast.
Kisumu was founded in 1901 in times of the English colonisation. It's a regional trade center, where local products such as sugar, fish and cotton are being trade.
Kisumu City is a quiet port town on the shores of Lake Victoria with wide streets and fine colonial architecture. It was awarded City Status in 2001 and has since grown into an attractive urban centre, with an excellent museum, one of Kenya’s largest open markets and excellent facilities for visitors.
