To Your Health
A lot of people don't realize how your oral health can affect your overall health. They also may not know that dental professionals can detect issues with a patient’s body through symptoms that may show up in the mouth.
The bacteria in the mouth can be very dangerous if it has the opportunity to enter the blood stream though open sores in the gums. Even the lowest levels of gingivitis can cause the gums to bleed easily which lets you know that there is now a place for the germs to travel where ever they want in the body. Yuck!
Well, we've got lots of information on how to keep the mouth healthy in the section "keep it clean" but now we should talk about why we should keep it clean.
It's also a great idea to visit your dentist and hygienist at least twice a year to have your teeth and gums checked. However, it's also a really good idea to visit the dental office to have your oral cancer screening. What that means is that your appointment will include a thorough check of your oral tissues and the skin around the head and neck as well.
Sometimes, patients see their dental health professionals more frequently than they see their general practitioner or internist. It is possible that a problem with your physical health could be detected through your oral tissue health. Also, we can often see skin or oral cancers that you would not be able to see or feel they may need examination by an oral surgeon or medical doctor.
