Outpatient/ambulatory care: Outpatient care is any health service done at a facility that does not cause an overnight stay. Ambulatory care is having the ability to move at your own will.
Inpatient care: Is any health care service that causes an overnight stay at a health care facility.
Long-term care: A group of individuals that coordinate services that are designed to give the maximum independence for patients with many limitations. They are provided over an extended period to help with the patient's physical, mental, social, and spiritual needs.
Primary care: Is basic and routine health care provided in an office setting or clinic. These services are usually provided by nurses, medical assistants, physicians, or other health care professionals. These professionals are responsible for coordinating all needs for a patient's health care and making sure they take the right steps in their health care process.
Secondary care: This is a routine in a hospital. routine surgery, specialized outpatient care, and consultations with specialists and rehabilitation, these services are usually brief and more complex and involve advanced diagnostic and therapeutic health procedures.
Tertiary care: This is the most intensive level of care. It is usually based on highly specialized and highly technological. Tertiary care usually involves burn treatment, transplantation, and coronary artery bypass surgery.
Discharge: This is when a patient who has received inpatient services can be discharged to go home.
Inpatient Date: The day a patient is formally admitted to a hospital with a signed and dated doctor's order. It's the first day the patient receives inpatient services.
Average length of stay: The average number of days a patient stays in the hospital. This measure indicates the severity of illness and resource use.
Skilled Nursing Care (Long-term Care): Care provided mainly by a licensed nurse under the overall direction of a physician.
Subacute Care (Long-term Care): A complex service that is provided by traditional skilled nursing care.
Restorative Care (Long-term Care): Therapy that helps a person regain or improve physical function.
End-of-life care (Long-term Care): The medical care and support given to people who are near the end of their life.
