Lin Bartram is a Professor in the School of Interactive Arts + Technology at Simon Fraser University and the Director of VIVA, the Vancouver Institute of Visual Analytics. Her research explores complementary threads in visualization, visual thinking, and the larger role of visual analytics in work, life and society, drawing on her background in both social and computing science. Her recent work examines the implications for innovative visual analytics support at intersection of visualization use and data practices. She has recently co-organized workshops in urban visualization (Vis 2017 & 2019), energy visualization (e-Energy 2020), and data issues in governance (Melbourne 2020).
Sheelagh Carpendale brings her broad background in fine art, design and computer science to her position as a Full Professor and Canada Research Chair in Information Visualization in Computing Science at Simon Fraser University. By studying how people interact with information in both work and social settings, she works towards designing more inclusive, accessible and understandable interactive visual representations of data. She combines information visualization and human-computer interaction with innovative new interaction techniques to better support the everyday practices of people who are viewing, representing, and interacting with data.
Eun Kyoung Choe is an Associate Professor in the College of Information Studies at the University of Maryland, College Park. Her work sits at the intersection of HCI, Ubiquitous Computing, and Personal Informatics. She examines some of the major challenges people face in leveraging personal data, such as data collection, data exploration, and data sharing. She has recently co-organized a CHI workshop and a Dagstuhl seminar on Mobile Data Visualization, and serves on the editorial boards of PACM IMWUT and Foundations and Trends in Human-Computer Interaction.
Bongshin Lee is a Sr. Principal Researcher at Microsoft Research. Her research explores innovative ways to help people with different abilities to interact with data, by supporting data collection, data exploration & analysis, and data-driven communication. She has co-organized several workshops on the topics related to HDI, including the workshops on Inclusive Data Visualization at Microsoft Research in 2020, Mobile Data Visualization at CHI 2018 and Multimodal Interaction for Data Visualization at AVI 2018, and Immersive Analytics at VIS 2017.
Melanie Tory is a Professor at Northeastern University. She has published on a wide variety of topics related to HDI, including personal analytics and natural language interaction with data. Melanie's recent research focuses on how data and analytics tools are used in the wild within organizations. Melanie serves on the VIS Steering Committee and is Associate Editor of TVCG, CGF, and CG&A.
