The Mighty Marching Bucks
The Mighty Marching Bucks transitioned from Core Style Marching to High Stepping in 2008 by Mr. Charles M. Conner, Ms. Joan, and Mr. James M. McCarty. Since the year of 2008, the band has gained a tradition of excellence, musicality, performance skills, and attention locally, nationally, and internationally.
The Band Program at Hoke County High School as a whole consists of a mixture of middle and high school students. The Hoke County High School Department of Fine Arts takes great pride in the versatile & dedicated staff that works with the children of the Hoke County School System. Director of Bands
Mr. Ross was born and raised in Hoke County. Mr. Ross is a graduate of Hoke County High School. While attending HCHS from 2000-2004, he was a proud member of the Mighty Marching Bucks of Hoke County High School. While he was attending HCHS he marched core style under the direction of Al Strickland.
Mr. Ross comes from a family legacy of HCHS alumni and HCHS band program alumni. Mr. Ross upon his high school graduation attended Fayetteville State University. During his career in education, he has taught at West Hoke Middle School, Lamar High School in South Carolina, Bladen County Schools, and Cumberland County Schools. He was extremely excited and honored to be able to return to Hoke County Schools in November 2023, the very district that educated him and developed his love for the HCHS band program. His desire to teach fine arts from his interest in helping others learn how to find their passion in music.
Accomplishments throughout career:
Mr. Ross lives in Hoke County with his wife and three children! He loves biking, watching movies, and being with his family!!! He hopes that all his experiences and passion will be a great help to his students and inspire them to become lifelong learners of music!
