In art, you will learn to use the creative process to develop ideas and to create original artworks with your friends! Yes, you will have more freedom in what you create, in fact this is strongly encouraged. We also embrace the mistakes - they help us to become better. Everyone can make art and with practice, you will reach your personal best!
In Art 1, students will explore and refine techniques using a variety of media, including:
Drawing with graphite, oil and chalk pastels, and ink
Painting with watercolor, tempera, and acrylics
Printmaking using diverse methods
Sculpting with cardboard, found objects, and papier-mâché
Ceramics through hand-building and glazing
Students will learn how to effectively choose and use materials and tools to achieve their artistic goals. The course also includes an introduction to Art History, highlighting works from both historical and contemporary artists.
Class critiques will provide opportunities to discuss and reflect on personal artwork, and students will have the chance to display their creations in the classroom and school community.
Throughout the year, student work will be proudly displayed in the following spaces or be entered into competitions:
HBMS Hallway Displays, Lions Club Peace Poster Contest, Teen Read Week Contest at Lake Travis Community Library, HBMS Dia de los Muertos Altar, HBMS Veterans Day Assembly, Peace Poster Reception at Hive Gallery, LTISD Middle School Art Display and Reception at Hive Gallery, LTISD Administration Building Monthly Board Meeting Art Display, Art UIL Competition (Regional), Jr. VASE, Big Art Day, End of the Year Middle School Art Exhibit
