Who: All of my survey results were from college students. Many college students suffer from poor time management skills. College students often have a lot to balance, from school, to work or sports, to social life, and more. Efficient time management skills would help college students successfully manage their various commitments. However, many college students have not yet mastered this skill.
What: Poor time management skills means that someone is not properly planning for all of the tasks at hand. Priorities are not in order, there is a lack of motivation, or it's hard for the person to estimate how long something will take them to complete. When time is managed productively, students are more set up for success and have less wasted time. Poor time management can lead to bad grades, unnecessary stress, and incomplete work.
When: The issue of poor time management skills has greatly increased during the current pandemic. COVID-19 forced the majority of classes to be moved online. With online classes, students often have a larger window of time on their hands to turn in work and complete the course requirements. The more flexible schedule of online classes often harms students' time management skills because they think they have more time to complete tasks than they actually do. This causes students to end up putting things off until the last minute.
Why: Poor time management skills often result from procrastination, distractions, and busy schedules. A lack of motivation due to the pandemic can also contribute to poor time management skills. This is an academic problem that many students need solutions to because it can greatly harm their grades, mental well being, and social life. Efficient time management skills would make it a lot easier for students to balance the various aspects of their lives.
