Hawaii Sustainable Development Group (HSDG) is on a mission to bring the world's leading agriculture technology and clean energy innovations to Hawaii to support our islands in becoming food sovereign by 2030. Our vision is to bring Hawaii the most economically sustainable organic food production methods while reducing our dependence on imported foods, creating new jobs, and providing clean energy to power 100% of the operation.
Local organic produce is among the fastest growing products in the world economy and is exceedingly needed in Hawaii due to its distance and dependence on mainland food imports. Like Haiti, Hawaii has been reliant on mainland resources for 100 years and is incredibly vulnerable to unforeseeable tragedies. We see the potential for a food shortage crisis with only 3 days of food on Oahu. The island is heavily reliant on food imports, importing a staggering 90% of our food.
HSDG plans to offset Hawaii’s imported food demand by partnering with the most advanced organic food producers in the world to bring their advanced technologies to Hawaii and train our workforce for new careers in AgTech, and biofuel production, achieving food sovereignty by 2030.
Lastly, HSDG is working to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from the shipping and AirCargo industries by farming the most demanded food commodities in Hawaii.
We are achieving this mission by partnering with local and international organic food production companies to scale local food production and offset the 90% of imported food which Hawaii relies on. We aim to create a sustainable model for local food production, leveraging advanced technology to reduce the consumption of resources and maximizing food production and greatly decreasing the carbon footprint and environmental impact of shipping fresh food to Hawaii.
HSDG will use organic AgTech methods and indoor vertical farms to harness Hawaii’s agricultural lands, abundant sunlight, and create new local AgTech Jobs for Hawaii's workforce, dedicated to achieving long-term goals for local food sovereignty and oil demand.
Due to Covid-19 Hawaii's tourism economy has come to a halt. Hawaii Sustainable Development Group is working together with the State of Hawaii to bring new innovations in Agriculture to Hawaii to create new economic drivers that support Hawaii thrive.
Hawaii Sustainable Development Group’s Community goal is to promote the values and lifestyle of ecological and sustainable living at the Organic Innovation Eco-Village where AgTech Employees and their families will live, work, grow and play. A culture of health and wellness will be emphasized along with a strong value placed around education and skill development. Community events will invite local visitors and tourists to experience the Eco-Village lifestyle. Residents and visitors will experience local farmers markets, community events, education programs, and job fairs.
The company’s environmental goal is to be a flagship site for ecological intelligence; for that reason the company procedures and facilities will be designed to qualify for the highly acclaimed “LEED Platinum” certification. Further we aim to reduce waste shipments to the mainland using large-scale public composting and cooking oil waste recycling. HSDG aims to offer compost and oil recycling services which will regularly be picked up for cultivation by our partners, this will in turn save immeasurable cost on waste, fertilizer and bio-fuel.
While our main focus is to systematically provide Hawaii’s people with the best Organic produce in the world, we also hope to clean the soil of our island. In recent history, the soil of the Hawaiian Islands has been destroyed from years of toxic pesticides and chemicals being dumped into the soil, aquifers, and atmosphere. It's time to clean house. By partnering with global experts and utilizing best practices in organic farming, we will purify the soil of the aina, and promote a pono relationship with the land through business.
HSDG's economic goal is to grow and absorb 30% of the fresh produce market share in the State of Hawaii over the next 5-10 years. This will send billions of dollars from mainland profits to Hawaii’s local economy with agri-business thriving as a socio-economic strength. By first partnering with mainland farm producers we will be able to leverage their systems, knowledge, and experience to train our workforce, and expand our own locally-owned companies.
Our world is experiencing a great economic and agricultural shift, and more than ever our economic sustainability is crucial. Hawaii cannot rely on shipping containers to bring us produce. This is a dead-end goal. We must assist Hawaii in the pursuit of achieving sustainability in an economically-viable way by harnessing its ecologically-rich lands.
Our vision of the future is to help make Hawaii the healthiest place to live in the world. Why not?! We will model our values, living standards, and core beliefs with the “Blue Zones” around the world, to promote a new model for living, teaching the people of Hawaii about health, wellness, vitality, and longevity.
