Here we explain how the program accommodations will be. If these are problematic we urge you to look for other field programs.
Food is prepared by local cooks and by the group together on a rotating basis. We will have vegetarian options for every meal but we cannot accommodate vegan. There are specific food ingredients that we are unable to avoid, (like soy and sesame) that are common in Hawaiian cuisine. If you have these allergies or preferences, your food options will be very limited.
Daily activities can be strenuous. We are working with Native Hawaiian groups who ask us to help with a variety of projects. Although everyone tries to be mindful of peoples health and abilities, there are times when you are asked to help the group participate. If you feel you cannot meet these requirements it may be best to look elsewhere for a program.
Housing will be in group settings with many other people who may live different lifestyles than you. We must all accommodate other people. If you find this type of living situation difficult and you have found yourself uncomfortable in these types of situations before -- then this program is likely not a good fit.
At times during the day, we will be out of reach of internet. This is a good thing in our opinion, but this will be a part of your daily routine.
Students of all abilities are welcome to participate in the program, but our staff capabilities are limited. If you are an applicant who requires personal assistance in your daily activities, we welcome the presence of your assistant throughout the program. Please contact us in advance to arrange an accommodation.
