Haverhill Farm's training program is led by Jess Boppe, with Liz and Tracey assisting with training rides. Our approach is rooted in classical horsemanship principles, including the teachings of Paul Cronin, with an emphasis on clear communication, simple pressure and release, praise, and developing a willing, confident horse.
We believe happy, healthy horses learn best. Before asking a horse to do something difficult, we consider soundness, fitness, comfort and understanding. We don't believe in drilling—horses should be given a clear question, rewarded when they find the right answer, and allowed to build confidence as they progress.
Every training plan is tailored to the individual horse and rider, from an occasional professional ride to multiple rides each week. Jess also specializes in trailer-loading problems and teaching horses to confidently self-load. We regularly bring in other well-respected professionals when an additional perspective or area of expertise can benefit a horse's development.
Our goal is not to create horses that only professionals can ride. Training should produce happy, confident and rideable horses while giving their riders the tools to continue their development. On this page, you'll find photos and videos of Leo's from his arrival to present!
