Training corner is a page dedicated to bi-monthly training exercises and as a place to share what we've been working on to improve our skills!
This week, we're starting to work outside again after the spring thaw but we only have a small space to work with (60x40) as the agility field is still quite soggy. Over some winter indoor trials, I've been noticing Finn has been having quite a few gambling problems - no he hasn't lost all our savings in an underground cookie ring (haha)!
Finn has always had trouble working away from me for multiple reasons and this summer I'd like to start to work on strategies to build his confidence to drive away and take obstacles with his own decision-making. I thought I'd explain what the game of Gamblers is (for new agility participants), share some videos of our issues and finally share some exercises we've been working on to create more "drive" and less "brake."
Learning objectives:
Review the AAC rules for the game of Gamblers
View a Gamblers course and analyze a video of our unsuccessful run
Discover reasons for dogs' unwillingness to work away from their handler
Illustrate 3 training strategies to help with distance work
This episode of Training Corner talks about the bend back and how positioning of the weave poles within the ring can be a factor for for missed entries. Video explanation and ways to work through these challenges are provided.
This installment of Training Corner is highlighting the progression of teeter training! I've gotten many requests over the past month and several questions about how to train the teeter and how to work out issues along the way.
Look at that concentration on that contact area! Well done Finnie!!!
