Group classes are appropriate for dogs that are NON-REACTIVE to people or other dogs. Dogs should be able to participate in a group environment without stress or anxiety so they can focus on their handler and the task at hand.
Group classes are great for dogs to learn how to engage with their handler when there's lot of environmental distractions going on, just like in a competition environment! We can also learn from each other and cheer each other on with our success as we learn as a group!
To determine the most appropriate level of agility group class for you and your dog, new students require a half-hour assessment. In the assessment, the instructor will assess agility foundation skills, competency on obstacles, handler engagement and what motivates the dog to work! The assessment rubric used for this session can be found below for your review.
Class Descriptions
In this class we learn the foundational agility behaviours to set dogs and their handlers up for success! This includes tugging, solid sit-stays/release, driving to a toy or food, hitting a target, wrapping a cone, plank-work, and foundations of handler body language. We also focus on safety, equipment education and beginner body awareness exercises to avoid injuries.
Pre-Class expectations: Dogs have basic manners (sit, stay/wait, come, down, heel) and can work around other dogs and people safely. Dogs applying for foundations classes have taken basic manners or obedience classes previously
Levels 1-3 focus on applying the foundation behaviours safely with the introduction to agility equipment in a progressive, step-wise manner. Dogs must display confidence and competency before graduating to higher levels.
Level 1: Introduction to jumping, tunnels, weave pole foundations and contact beginnings on flat contact obstacles/planks. Learning cue names and basic handling techniques.
Level 2: Jump directional cues (including backside cues), threadles, mechanics of handler side changes (FX, RX, BX), continued development of contact skills with planks/training equipment and weave pole skills. Strategies to build drive and obstacle independence.
Level 3: Common multiple obstacle jump patterns (serps, pinwheels, S-curves), intro to small sequences (3-5 obstacles), side changes, intro to more difficult weave entries (off-side), intro to jump grids, lowered contact practice.
Pre-Class Expectations: Dogs have completed an introductory agility foundations course and are fluent in the 5 foundational agility behaviours
Designed for teams that are thinking about or new to agility competition. Small sequence course work 5-6 obstacles with weekly challenges appropriate to novice dogs. Working towards a full, novice course! Discussion of course strategies and analysis at novice level included with introduction to agility games and strategies (gamblers, snooker, steeplechase).
Pre-Class Expectations: Dogs have a solid understanding of all obstacles, but may struggle with certain aspects (ie. off-side weave entries, missed contacts, wrong tunnel entries).
Designed for teams experienced in competition looking to increase success at scoring qualifying (clean) runs and adding advanced skills to their handling repertoire (layering, bypass cues, difficult weave entries, adjacent obstacle discrimination, lateral distance work). Small and large sequence course work with advanced challenges seen at Masters, National and International levels. Competition mindset, handler preparation and pre/post ring routine also discussed.
Pre-Class Expectations: Dogs and handlers have completed Novice titles (i.e. ADC, SGDC) and have fluency on all agility obstacles
Small group (2-3 dogs) reserved for experienced handler and dog teams who will train together privately with the instructor and her dog(s) with intentions of competing at National or International levels. Homework with small space exercises to complete at home with online group discussion with peer-to-peer feedback and video review critique. By appointment only - contact for more info.

Please POTTY YOUR DOG before class and in-between runs if needed in designated areas. There is absolutely NO PEE/POOP allowed in the fenced area (agility ring). This is a rule in agility - dogs that eliminate in the ring are excused and the same rule applies
Please CLEAN UP AFTER YOUR DOG - this is our country property where other animals including wildlife live. There are several designated garbage cans for poop disposal
Please BE RESPECTFUL - to other class members, our neighbours, the instructor and the property
Please BE RESPONSIBLE AND IN CONTROL OF YOUR DOG - when they are not working, your dog should be on leash attached to you or safely contained in a crate/penned area. Please bring appropriate equipment such as leashes, collapsible kennels or an X-pen. Although tempting, classes are not a place to have dogs socializing with each other - this interferes with their ability to focus on training and some dogs are not comfortable with socializing with other dogs. Please do not tie your dog to a tree and leave them unsupervised.
ABSOLUTELY NO SMOKING/VAPING allowed anywhere on the property - if you need to smoke, please go off the property or smoke in your car
NO UNSUPERVISED USE OF EQUIPMENT IS PERMITTED during or after classes to prevent damage to equipment or injuries to handler or dog
ANY FORCEFUL/ABUSIVE BEHAVIOR towards a dog or other person will not be tolerated and will result in removal of the team from the agility club
