In science and medicine, the term "prognosis" refers to estimating the expected or likely level of functional improvement and the time required to achieve that level of improvement in a health condition. A forecast of the degree of progress attained over the course of therapy may also be included.
It refers to a forecast of a patient's future condition in the context of medicine. General adjectives like poor, favourable, moderate, excellent, fair, or hopeless are used to describe it(News-Medical.net, 2021).
Here are some examples of prognosis:
With the right care, Hashimoto's thyroiditis has an excellent prognosis. Restoring thyroid hormone levels through medical treatment significantly aids in reversing hypothyroidism's indications and symptoms. However, it is necessary to conduct routine follow-up in order to carefully track the development of the condition. Without therapy, hypothyroidism can deteriorate over time and threaten significant disease and organ damage(Samittarucksa, n.d.).
Immune system antibodies target and harm thyroid tissue in Hashimoto's disease. As a result, the thyroid gland swells and its capacity to produce thyroid hormone is harmed, ultimately resulting in hypothyroidism. If left untreated, hypothyroidism can lead to some serious complications and, in rare cases, death. These include:
