AVA
2022
This project was created for the NEA section of my Media A-Level, I was tasked with creating a pre-title sequence and title sequence for an original TV product. The show I created is called "AVA". It encompasses the essence of suspense and technological advancements and it draws inspiration from the series "Humans", "Utopia" and "Black Mirror". The narrative revolves around the introduction of a groundbreaking AI algorithm called AVA and the protagonist, Paige Owens, who delves into uncovering the truth behind it. I aimed to engage the audience and evoke a sense of anticipation and curiosity and possible allegories to real life. I carefully planned the product to meet the specific requirements and limitations set by the exam board:
The product must be between 2 minutes 30 seconds - 3 minutes.
The production must be for an independent production company, to be broadcast on Netflix.
The product should target an audience of 18-35-year-olds, with a particular interest in your chosen genre.
The product should contain a pre-title sequence that aims to ‘hook’ the audience and establish the programme’s identity, including key information about the narrative, genre and characters.
The title sequence should include the title of the programme & episode and names of key production personnel and actors, not including real names. you should also use appropriate images and graphics to establish the genre.
There should be two or more filming locations appropriate to the chosen genre with at least three different characters or participants.
There should be narrative exposition and create an enigma within the product which is appropriate to the genre.
There should be a wide range of camera shots, angles, movement, diegetic sound and non-diegetic sound, appropriate to the chosen genre.
Continuity Editing should be used throughout the whole pre-title sequence, and title sequence.
This project was a significant part of my A-Level Media coursework, where I had the opportunity to explore and demonstrate my skills in storytelling, visual aesthetics, and technical execution, I am extremely happy with the outcome as it performed well during marking achieving 95% of marks.
AVA was also nominated for The Moving Image Awards which recognise and celebrate the best moving image productions from students undertaking WJEC qualifications in Film and Media across the UK and it won in the category of "BEST TV/FILM EXTRACT " which I am incredibly proud of.
