Theatre | Auditorium

The John M. Harlan Auditorium was established in 2017. It is a state of the art facility that benefits the whole NISD community. The booth that sits atop the 996 seat house, is home to a lightboard; the same light board used in the Superbowl. The sound board supports a wireless microphone system which allows voices to be heard flawlessly during musicals. The projector is used to share general information as well as project various multimedia presentations, and two spotlights bookend the booth. On stage, there is a hydraulic orchestra pit that easily lowers instruments to be played by our talented Harlan musicians. It has a top of line lighting system complete with 6 moving lights and specialized instruments. Harlans’s Theatre also has a black scrim, white scrim, and large cyclorama that allow for cool lighting effects. One of the most fascinating technical elements of the theatre is its automated rigging system that allows curtains, fly's, scenery, and even actors to raise up and down with a touch of a button. Furthermore, they completely disappear from the audience’s view because Harlan also has a full fly raft making it the tallest building feature in the school. And just through the roll up door, one will find the set shop where designs are brought to life. The Harlan Auditorium is truly a performer’s paradise and a technician's playground!
