September 11, 2020 -- The City Lake Contractor (Solitude Lake Management) sprayed, from multiple boats onto the surface of the lake, a 2nd application, of an unknown volume of "GreenClean 5.0" -- the product described from the September 3, 2020 dated U.S. mailed letter to residents.
After this 2nd treatment, the lake water does not appear the same as after the first treatment results, where maximum clarity and elimination of detectable Microcystin toxin were achieved for a short time period. Currently, the lake remained/ remains green after the 2nd treatment and blue-green algae (BGA) is present in large visible quantities . The DEP confirmed toxins still are present during their September follow-up sample at the Southern Lobe (entrance). The DEP did not test the NW Lobe in their Sept follow-up, even though that location was also tested in late August, prior to this treatment.
Since bottom aeration is in place in some areas, adding necessary oxygen and circulating the water. It appears that nutrients from the bottom water, likely from the sediment - fill, are being dispersed through the water column and not being reduced enough by the added oxygen at this time. The lake sediment still remains untested/ undisclosed or investigated by the State (DEP) or the City of St. Pete as a nutrient source.
October 14, 2020 -- The City Lake Contractor (Solitude Lake Management) had a single boat on the lake, where supposedly a copper algaecide application was applied -- the product described from the September 29, 2020 dated U.S. mailed letter to residents. The method of application, application areas, and time span did not resemble the prior 2 GreenClean treatments.
