Initial Inquiry
Families interested in one of our puppies are encouraged to reach out through our social media or by email. Once we connect, we will share additional information and, when appropriate, provide a puppy application.
We are happy to answer questions and get to know potential families before moving forward.
Puppy Application
Our application helps us learn more about your lifestyle, experience, and what you are looking for in a Golden Retriever. This allows us to thoughtfully consider each placement and ensure our puppies are going to homes that are a good fit for their temperament and needs.
Applications are reviewed on a case-by-case basis, and we reserve the right to decline placement if we feel a home is not the right fit.
Deposits & Reservations
Once puppies are born, approved families may place a non-refundable deposit of $500 to reserve a puppy from the litter. Deposits are accepted only after a litter has arrived and availability is confirmed.
Because we maintain a small, home-based program, availability is limited and deposits are accepted on a first-come basis following application approval.
Puppy Selection
Puppies are placed based on temperament and family fit, rather than color or markings alone. As puppies grow, we evaluate personality traits and work closely with families to help guide placement.
Families will select their puppy in person at approximately six weeks of age, once individual personalities have begun to emerge.
Visits & Biosecurity
To protect the health and well-being of our puppies, visits are limited. Families may visit twice:
• Once at approximately six weeks of age for puppy selection
• Once on pickup day
We appreciate families respecting these boundaries, as they are in place to support puppy health and safety.
Going Home
Puppies typically go home at eight weeks of age. In rare circumstances, puppies may remain with us beyond this time; however, extended stays beyond nine weeks will incur a boarding fee.
All puppies go home with veterinary records documenting their first wellness visit, vaccinations, and deworming, along with care information to support a smooth transition.
Registration & Breeding Rights
Puppies are sold with AKC limited registration unless otherwise agreed upon. Families interested in full registration or breeding rights may discuss this option with us; an additional fee applies.
We do not require spay or neuter by a specific age and encourage families to make informed decisions in consultation with their veterinarian.
Communication & Updates
We share regular puppy updates, photos, and videos through Happy Heart Homestead’s Facebook and Instagram pages. These platforms allow families to follow along as puppies grow and develop prior to going home.
Our Placement Philosophy
We place puppies in both active outdoor and hunting homes, as well as family companion homes. Each placement is considered individually, with the goal of matching puppies to environments where they can thrive.
Our priority is always the long-term well-being of our dogs, and placement decisions are made thoughtfully and with care.
We appreciate families who take the time to understand our process and approach. Our goal is to provide a positive experience for both puppies and families, built on communication, transparency, and mutual respect.
