秘密
Chinese characters(Hanzi)are divided into two categories. Many assume that all Hanzi are pictograph; however, this is not entirely accurate. Among the 3,500 commonly used Hanzi, around 1/3 are typical hieroglyphics that express meanings by symbols, meaning that every Hanzi is a figure that expresses meanings. These glyphs do not provide a clue of pronunciation, but they indicate the meaning of this Hanzi.
The other 2,400 Hanzi are adding radicals to the typical pictographic Hanzi. In these circumstances, the hieroglyphics part doesn’t express meanings any more but imply pronunciations, alongside radicals that are indicative of the classifications of the Hanzi (if this Hanzi is related to water, fire, hand, or wood). Since there are parts that implicate pronunciations, they are no longer pure hieroglyphics.
