The Secret of Hanzi

The history of Hanzi(Chinese Character) dates back to over 5,000 years ago when they were created by Cang Jie “answering the will of Heaven”. Hanzi is the only hieroglyph writing system that are still in use in the world . The fact that Hanzi are hieroglyphics means that Hanzi not only represent pronunciation, but also contain meanings and Chinese people’s spiritual and cultural value. Many Hanzi are as vivid as a picture.

However, after the clash of Chinese civilization with western civilization in the 19th century, Hanzi made enormous sacrifices and compromises. The fact that Chinese characters are pictograph has been completely abandoned. Whenever learning a Hanzi in school, students only relay on rote memorization, without having any analysis of why the Hanzi is written as it is, nor do they have to reflect upon the significance carried by the Hanzi.

The goal of this website is to provide an innovative approach of interpreting Hanzi, recover the cultural information in Hanzi that has been lost for more than 100 years. I look forward to inspiring Chinese learners and educators with this website.
