As a teacher, there are so many different ideas and beliefs that one has the ability to show throughout their classroom as well as life lessons to give their students. Every teacher has a different philosophy, however they all have the same goal; and this is to make sure that all children are prepared for the future. No matter what a teacher decides to do, they know it is most important to always have a student’s best interest at heart. I personally believe that through differentiated learning, hands-on learning, and general life lessons, that a student has the ability to really reach their full potential as well as feeling like a unique individual.
The first objective I would like to set for myself as a teacher and throughout my classroom would be the idea of differentiated learning. I would like to incorporate this into my lesson plans due to the fact that every student is extremely different with different needs. All students deserve to reach their full potential and I feel this would be possible only if I truly understand the needs of my students and show them that they can succeed in anything they do with determination. This also allows students to see that it is okay to not be at the same learning level or pace as their peers. I will use strategies such as formative assessment to determine how I can best meet their needs and make accommodations. This will help me to better understand how my students are learning.
I feel that hands- on learning is one way that my students will be able to reach my goals and objectives. Related to differentiated learning, hands-on learning gives children the ability to figure things out and solve problems on their own and in their own way. This builds up their self-esteem without them realizing at first. Every student is different and this approach allows the students to succeed in their own way and their own pace. This allows the students to almost get more in depth with different things because it gives the students the opportunity to really take a closer look at things rather than just opening a text book and reading about it. An example would be if a child was given the opportunity to retell a story through storyboard verses writing a summary. They could use their creativity to reach the end goal.
I am aware that I have many roles as a teacher and I need to provide a safe environment, understanding heart, yet establish a structured atmosphere so that the children are actively engaged in learning. I believe that children are inherently good and that they have the desire to learn and be fed emotionally and academically. As a future teacher I realize that not every child comes from the same background and that some children may come to school without breakfast, and have heavy baggage. Those children may struggle and I need to provide the emotional support they need and strive to meet their needs.
Once I see the end results and positive self-esteem of my students, I will know I have taught effectively. I feel that one of the greatest accomplishments will be seeing something start to click with the child as they are engaged in learning and feel as if I am really helping them grow and succeed. I want to not only teach them in the classroom, but give them valuable life lessons that they can treasure forever. I will refine my skills as a teacher through experience and determination to look for improvement in my teaching. I will strive to be well prepared and organized in the classroom. I am aware that as a future educator this is something that I should be concerned about daily. I believe that making the extra effort to try to always improve my teaching will in the end make me a more effective teacher.
With all of these objectives in mind, I feel that throughout my classroom my students would succeed as well as feel individualized, and accepted as a unique individual. They would have the ability to not only learn and understand content, but through life lessons that I hope to instill in them. I look forward to the challenges and rewards that lie ahead of me as a new teacher.
