The Egg Drop Project is an engineering challenge that aims to protect an egg from breaking when dropped from a height. In this project, I attempted to solve the problem by designing a protective capsule in the shape of an egg.
The capsule was carefully modeled to surround the egg completely, and additional protective materials were added inside the capsule to absorb shock and reduce the impact force during the fall. The egg-shaped design was chosen because curved structures help distribute stress more evenly and improve resistance to impact .
so now I am going to show you step by step how I designed my capsule and what i added inside trying to save the egg as much as possible.
The first step in the design process was creating a semi-oval shape to represent half of the egg capsule. This was done using the Fit Point Spline Tool, which allowed for drawing smooth and accurate curved lines to match the natural egg form.
This tool was chosen to achieve a realistic and aerodynamic shape, ensuring even stress distribution and better impact resistance.
The Revolve Tool was used to convert the semi-oval sketch into a full egg-shaped capsule by rotating it around an axis, creating the complete 3D structure.
A center line was drawn through the middle of the capsule to divide it into two halves. In the first half, a semi-oval shape was added inside, as shown in the figure.
The Mirror Tool was used to replicate the first half of the design onto the second half. Then, the Revolve Tool was applied to create an opening in the capsule for placing the egg inside.
Inside the capsule, several wavy shapes were added to help protect the egg and reduce impact force during a drop. These internal features were created using the same method and steps as the small opening where the egg is placed.
