About Our Scholars

Each year since 2006, the HAMP Foundation has selected two eligible young people to receive HAMP Scholarships. 

We receive about 125 applications from eligible students each year.

Scholarships have been awarded to graduates of public and private Milwaukee County high schools, including Divine Savior Holy Angels, Franklin, Greendale, Hmong American Peace Academy, Marquette, Milwaukee Lutheran, Nathan Hale, Nicolet, Pius, Reagan, Rufus King, Saint Thomas More, Shorewood, South Milwaukee, University School of Milwaukee, Whitnall, and Whitefish Bay.

Most of our scholars have attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison; four have attended the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities.

We have supported our scholars to do semesters abroad in many countries including Denmark, England, Iceland and Hong Kong.

Scholars have majored in business, molecular biology, biomedical engineering, sociology, electrical engineering, geophysics, pharmacy, biology, architecture, fashion design, computer engineering, physics, astrophysics, journalism, entrepreneurial business and biochemistry.

Many scholars have continued on to graduate studies:  Medical College of Wisconsin (Pediatrics, Ocular Imaging); University of Minnesota-Twin Cities (Science, Technology and Environmental Policy); intern at The Late Show with Steven Colbert; Icahn School of Medicine; and Icelandic Meteorological Office. 

Some of the careers pursued by scholars include: management of a family business (Custom Tool Service); game designer; test automation engineer at an aerospace company (SpaceX); software engineer (Amazon); and machine learning app developer at a tech startup (SimpleMachinesINC).

On the side, scholars lead business associations; write and publish poetry; work to create cleaner, cheaper charcoal in Africa; coordinate STEM programs for high school students, and much more.
