ENGL1101/0999 is composed of 16 workshops: one workshop for each week of the semester. Except for the first and last workshops, each workshop begins on Sunday and ends on Saturday. While each workshop covers different material and different activities, they all share a common pattern:
Beginning with Workshop 2, assigned readings and lectures are due BEFORE each upcoming workshop.
A weekly assessment is due each Sunday beginning the workshop to test your understanding of the assigned readings and lectures. If you do the assessment, you earn a 100; if you don't, you earn a 0. The assessments count for 15% of your class grade. This is an easy A if you simply show up and do the work on time.
Activities and online group and individual conferences are assigned on an as-needed basis. You must monitor the schedule.
A blog post is due each workshop on Tuesday. You may write a post earlier, but you may not write it later. You must write comments on two of your colleagues' posts each week by Saturday. If you write the blog posts, you earn a 100; if you don't, you earn a 0. The blog posts count for 15% of your grade. This is another easy A if you simply show up and do the work on time.
You will mostly write in this class. I will be online and near to help you and to provide occasional mini-demonstrations, but I seldom lecture. You learn to write by writing, not by listening to me lecture about writing.
