Composition I

ENGL 1101A, Composition I, is an Area A Core Curriculum Course, a composition course focusing on skills required for effective writing in a variety of contexts, with emphasis on exposition, analysis, and argument, and also including introductory use of a variety of research skills.


This is a combined course of English 1101 and English 0999 (co-requisite Learning Support class). While assignments for English 0999 will be embedded in English 1101, you will receive individual grades for English 1101 (3 credit hours) and English 0999 (2 credit hours).


Learning Support is intended to provide co-requisite support for students requiring remediation in reading and/or writing while they are enrolled in ENGL 1101 – English Composition I. Topics will parallel topics being studied in ENGL 1101 as well as the essential reading and writing skills needed to be successful in ENGL 1101. Taken with ENGL 1101, this is a composition course focusing on skills required for effective writing in a variety of contexts, with emphasis on exposition, analysis, and argumentation, and also including introductory use of a variety of research skills.
