During my time in the MLIS program, I have completely immersed myself in the world of academic librarianship. When I began the program, I was a circulation assistant for Linscheid Library on the campus of East Central University. At the beginning of my second semester, I became the Digital Services Librarian at Linscheid Library. Lifelong learning has always been not just a concept in my life but one of my strongest beliefs for a successful and fulfilling future. The education I have obtained during the MLIS program along with the real-world experience I have gained in my profession has strengthened that belief even more.
One way I plan to continue my education is by being a member and an active participant in organizations such as OLA, ALA, and OK-ACRL. During the MLIS program, I presented at the 2023 OLA Conference and also became the student member of the OLA Conference Planning Committee for the 2023-2024 year. Being able to attend the conference helped me make connections with so many information professionals but being able to get my voice out there during my presentation and time on the committee made me see that I want to continue participating in important conversations.
I also intend to take part in as many professional development opportunities as I can. I plan to constantly improve not only my skills but also my mindset on topics that could benefit the community I will one day serve. I am obtaining a certificate in Data Analytics during my time in the MLIS program as well. I will make sure I am participating in webinars, conferences, and additional certifications pertaining to librarianship and data analytics. By doing this I will be improving two sets of skills that I already have, in order to make me a better employee/resource to others.
One of the main things I have learned during my time as an information professional is that things never stay the same for long. New ideas and challenges are constantly coming along. No matter where I end up in my career I will always make sure I am doing my part to help the profession.
